I'm taking part in Sands Champions for Baby Loss Awareness Week

I am proud to be joining organisations across the UK in supporting Sands during Baby Loss Awareness Week. By taking part in Sands Champions, we're standing together to raise the voices of parents and families, create safe spaces for conversation, and show support for colleagues, clients, and the wider baby loss community.

Sands is dedicated to ensuring that anyone affected by the loss of a baby receives the care, understanding and support they deserve. They campaign for change, provide specialist training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support vital research so that fewer babies die and fewer families experience this devastating loss.Your donation, whatever the amount, makes a meaningful difference.

  • £10 could provide a Bereavement Support Pack, with information and guidance for faimilies during the most difficult time.
  • £25 could provide a memory or Muslim care box, giving bereaved parents a treasured place to keep the precious moments they have with their baby.

  • £40 could fund a one hour Helpline call, providing a parent with someone to turn to when they need it most.

  • £100 could fund a two hour online support group, connecting families with Sands Bereavement Support Officers and others who truly understand.

  • £500 could provide a half-day of specialist face-to-face training for midwives, nurses and doctors, to further their knowledge and skills in safer maternity care.Thank you for supporting my fundraising and helping Sands be there for every family who needs them.

What is Baby Loss Awareness Week and Why is it so important

Tuesday 13th Oct

aby Loss Awareness Week takes place every year from 9th to 15th October and is dedicated to remembering babies lost during pregnancy, at birth, or shortly afterwards. It brings together bereaved families, friends, healthcare professionals, charities, and communities to acknowledge the impact of pregnancy and baby loss and ensure no one has to grieve alone. Why is it so important?

💙 It breaks the silence Many people affected by miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death, ectopic pregnancy, or termination for medical reasons often feel isolated in their grief. Baby Loss Awareness Week encourages open conversations and helps reduce the stigma surrounding baby loss. [babyloss-a...reness.org], [miscarriageuk.org]

💗 It remembers and honours babies For bereaved families, having their baby acknowledged can be incredibly meaningful. The week provides opportunities for remembrance through events, memorial services, ribbon campaigns, and personal acts of reflection. [About – Ba...eness Week], [sands.org.uk]

💙 It supports grieving families The week helps raise awareness of the support available and reminds families that their feelings are valid and that help is available throughout their grief journey. [About – Ba...eness Week], [lullabytrust.org.uk]

💗 It drives positive change A key aim of Baby Loss Awareness Week is to improve bereavement care, increase understanding among employers and communities, and support efforts to reduce preventable baby deaths. [About – Ba...eness Week], [lullabytrust.org.uk]

The Wave of Light

The week concludes on 15th October, which is International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day. At 7:00pm, people across the world light a candle for at least one hour as part of the Global Wave of Light, creating a continuous chain of remembrance across different time zones. In simple terms

Baby Loss Awareness Week is important because it gives families a chance to remember their babies, helps others understand the lasting impact of baby loss, encourages compassionate support, and works towards a future where fewer families experience such devastating loss
