2026 Run 50k in September

I’m running 50k in September for families facing baby loss

I'm running 50k in September for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that fewer families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

Kali-jo Banheiro-Smith

Tuesday 18th Aug
I'm doing this for our beautiful baby girl kali-jo who was born sleeping at 29 weeks on the. 13th July 2026 at 5.00am. Kali-jo had down syndrome and AVSD and we were perfectly OK  with that and embraced the journey ,  we were about to embark on  and we also knew the challenges that were to arise with this diagnosis but we still fought for her.  Then at 29 weeks gestation our whole world was turned inside . We went for a routine scan and got told she had developed 'hydrops fetalis.
In this instant we knew as parents it wasn't going to be the dream we had in our minds . My world literally shattered hearing them words as we knew we had to say goodbye. Kali passed away inside me and in carried her for 3 days after before going into 38 hours of excruciating souls destroying labour. During this labour I lost 3.5 litres of blood and very nearly died.  As soon as kali was born I had to have emergency surgery to replace the blood I had lost and have 7. Blood transfusions. I was so close to death that I was sadly ready for my time to come i accepted it in that moment that I may die. But I didn't and this is why I'm doing this. That little girl saved me but also took my heart with her . She was the most perfect little angel I've ever seen and she is the reason I can't give up.
