I’m running 50k in September for families facing baby loss
I'm running 50k in September for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.
Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that fewer families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.
Thank you.

50K for the Ones We Carry With Us
Monday 17th AugIn September, I’ll be running 50 kilometres for SANDS, raising money to support bereaved parents and siblings.
This challenge means much more to me than simply running 50K.
Last year, I lost both my brother and my daughter. Two completely different losses, but both left a space in my life that words can never really explain.
Losing someone you love changes you. You learn how to continue living while carrying something that never really leaves you. There are days when the grief feels quiet, and there are days when it feels overwhelming. And sometimes, the hardest part is knowing that there are so many other families waking up every day having to learn how to live with that same absence.
That is one of the reasons I’ve chosen to take on this challenge.
I’m running for the parents who had to leave hospital without their baby.
I’m running for the brothers and sisters who lost part of their world.
I’m running for the families who still have an empty place at the table.
And I’m running for my own brother and my daughter, who I carry with me every day.
The 50K will undoubtedly test me physically, but I know the physical challenge is nothing compared with what bereaved families have to carry emotionally.
I believe I need to do this for myself too.
Grief can make you feel powerless. This gives me something I can actively do — something positive that allows me to honour the people I’ve lost while helping others who are walking a road I know all too well.
SANDS does important work supporting families affected by the death of a baby, helping people through some of the darkest moments of their lives. Every donation, no matter how big or small, can help that support reach another family when they need it most.
So in September, I’ll put one foot in front of the other and keep going.
50 kilometres. For my brother. For my daughter. For every bereaved parent and sibling. For the ones we love, and for the ones we carry with us.
If you’re able to support me, I’d be incredibly grateful. Your donation won’t bring our loved ones back, but it can help make sure that nobody has to face bereavement feeling completely alone.
Thank you for reading, sharing, donating, or simply standing with me.
For the ones we carry with us.
