I’m taking on Winter Walk and walking 50K in December for families facing baby loss
I’ve committed to taking on Winter Walk and walking 50k in December for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.
Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Walking 50km for Sands in Memory of Sophia Lily
Thursday 27th NovThis December, I am taking part in the Sands 50k Challenge, raising money for Sands — a charity that supports bereaved parents and families who experience stillbirth and neonatal loss.
This cause is profoundly close to my heart. In September this year, my beautiful niece Sophia Lily was born sleeping. Nothing prepares a family for a loss like this, and yet in the middle of the heartbreak, we were shown compassion, dignity, and support that meant the world to us.
My amazing sister Jem and her husband Sean were able to spend precious, uninterrupted time with Sophia in a dedicated bereavement suite funded by Sands. This space allowed them the privacy and stillness they needed to hold her, love her, and make memories that will last a lifetime. As a family, we were incredibly grateful to be able to meet Sophia and spend those moments together.
The care Jem and Sean received from the midwives and staff at Hull Royal Infirmary was truly exceptional. Their kindness, sensitivity, and support carried us through one of the darkest times we have ever faced.
Right now, the hospital has only one bereavement suite, which is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Sands is working to improve and expand these facilities so more families can have the chance to say their goodbyes in the calm, private environment they deserve.
By completing this 50km walk, I hope to give something back — to honour Sophia, to support Jem and Sean, and to help Sands continue the incredible work they do for families like ours.
