Sophia ❤️

This December, I am taking part in the Sands 50k Challenge to raise money for Sands — a charity that supports bereaved parents and families who experience stillbirth and neonatal loss.

This cause means more to me than I can put into words. In September, our beautiful daughter, Sophia Lily, was born sleeping.
Thanks to Sands, Sean and I were able to spend precious, uninterrupted time with her in a dedicated bereavement suite, creating memories we will hold in our hearts forever.

By completing this 50km walk, I hope to give something back — to honour Sophia, to help Sands continue the incredible work they do for families like ours, and to support other parents who face this unimaginable loss.

We're taking on the Winter Walk and walking 50K in December for families facing baby loss

We’ve committed to take on Winter Walk and are walking 50k in December for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Cam, my overly supportive backpack, clung to me on the trail with the enthusiasm of a golden retriever and the persistence of Velcro. Every time I tightened his straps, he seemed to give a proud little “oh yeah, that’s the spot” creak, as if he’d been waiting all day for me to adjust him. Halfway up the mountain, I swear he hugged me tighter than necessary—either encouraging me or trying to keep me from abandoning him for a newer, fancier model. Honestly, he might be the most affectionate hiking partner I’ve ever had.
