I’m running 50k in May for families facing baby loss

I'm running 50k in May for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

Running for my niece Kimmy

50K in May: Every Step for Kimberly Shannon 💛

This May, I’m setting myself a challenge: to run and walk 50 kilometres across the month in support of Sands, a charity that supports families affected by the loss of a baby.

But this isn’t just about distance, fitness, or ticking off a goal. Every step I take is for someone deeply loved and never forgotten—my beautiful niece, Kimberly Shannon.

Kimberly was sadly stillborn, and although she never got the chance to take her own steps in this world, she has left footprints on our hearts that will never fade. She is, and always will be, our forever angel.

Grief doesn’t follow a straight path. Some days feel lighter, others heavier. This challenge feels like a way to honour that journey—to move through it, step by step, mile by mile. Whether it’s a quiet walk in the morning or a longer run at the weekend, each kilometre is a moment to reflect, to remember, and to carry Kimberly with me.

Sands does incredible work supporting families through unimaginable loss, offering care, understanding, and a space where grief is met with compassion. Supporting them feels like a meaningful way to turn love into action—because Kimberly’s story matters, and so do all the families navigating similar heartbreak.

There’s something powerful about movement. It clears the mind, strengthens the body, and, in this case, connects me to something bigger than myself. This 50K isn’t about speed or competition. It’s about intention. It’s about love. It’s about remembrance.

To Kimberly—our darling girl—you are forever loved, forever missed, and forever part of us. This is for you.

💛 Forever Auntie’s Angel 💛

If you’d like to support this journey or learn more about Sands, thank you—it truly means so much.
