I’m running 50k in May for families like mine 💔

As you are probably aware i gave birth to our baby boy Charlie in May 2020.

This pregnancy wasn’t an easy one, at our 20week scan we found out we were have a little boy are 3 girls!! Excitement soon faded as we were told Charlie was very ill and didn’t have a very high survival rate. 

We had to do everything we possibly could to give our son the best chance. This consisted of weekly hospital appointments, every test possible to find the cause of his illness, hospital appointments in London to see specialists. 

Each week we were told Charlie was getting worse and it began to make me very ill as well. At 26 weeks we had to make the choice to deliver him 14weeks early. 

Charlie was a fighter and fought right up until his last minute with us, which was sadly just an hour after he was born. 

Nothing can prepare you for the pain and heartbreak of losing a child. 

It doesn’t just end there, everyday there are little reminders, birthdays, Christmas, back to school. 

So many families go through this pain everyday, you may think you don’t know anyone who has but trust me if you spoke to everyone about it there will be someone in your group that has been affected. 

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby.
