I’m swimming 10k in November for families facing baby loss

This November I’m going to be swimming 10k in support  of every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

The First Swim!…

Sunday 2nd Nov
Well that was much harder than I thought!
Probably the hardest thing about it?… Trying to keep track of how many lengths I’d done!!

As my mind regularly wandered off, the conversation with myself went something like this…
“Uh, was that 16 or 18?? I’m not sure… 18 I think. Well, I don’t want to count lengths I’ve not done so better make it 16. Yeah, that’s it, I won’t forget again, I’’ll definitely keep track from here”.

That happened at least thrice!

So, I’ve done my first 100 lengths  (2.5km) but it may be a couple more!
An interesting thing I’ve also learned today is this site will only let you log whole Kilometers! So I’ve actually only logged it as 80 lengths. 😩

Note to self… Make sure you are swimming in multiples of 40 lengths!

P.s if anyone has a method for keeping on track of how many lengths they’re doing without using a smartwatch, please do share!

Strokes For Sands

Saturday 1st Nov
Baby loss is something that has deeply touched my both my family and friends — my parents, my siblings, and I have all experienced this heartbreak, as have some of the people closest to us. Seeing the difference that Sands made for my friends when they lost their precious son inspired me to want to give something back. Their support, compassion, and work to break the silence around baby loss means so much to so many families. Throughout my own journey, swimming and staying active became a source of peace and healing, so it felt right to channel that into this challenge. Together with my sister (and brother if we can convince him to join!) I’ll be swimming 10k through November to raise awareness and funds for Sands — to honour the babies we’ve lost, to support the families who need help today, and to contribute to a future where fewer families experience this pain.

We need your support to make a difference! Whether you’re able to donate to this important cause or want to take on the challenge yourself and swim with us, every contribution counts.
Join our team, help us raise awareness, and support Sands in providing essential support for families who have experienced baby loss.
Together, we can make a meaningful impact and so please donate today or get involved by signing up to swim with us!
