I’m running 50k in September for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to running 50k in September for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Hello. Bit of an update message -

 

We've completed our challenge and have ran 50k in September! (Actually 59k). 7k yesterday!


Thank you for all your donations to SANDs. It really means a lot to us that other families can receive a memory box or counselling following baby loss due to our donations ❤️ 

If you haven't donated and you'd like to then you still can with the link 😄 there's no pressure if you can't, it just means a lot even if you've interacted with us in this challenge and read the blog on the page to understand our loss a bit more. 


The challenge has been really good for us too. Running helps us clear our heads and it's been great doing a challenge together. And after experiencing low mood (due to infertility), IVF and pregnancy it has got me moving following a big time of inactivity. I can't believe I got up and started running to be honest so soon after losing the baby, but it's helped physically and mentally.  

We actually aim to run a 10k for the same charity in a few weeks.


It's baby loss awareness week soon, our birthdays are coming up. We had some bad news yesterday. It's all really hard. Its the toughest time of our lives and that might always be true.

Our story

Tuesday 2nd Sep
After two and a half years of struggling to conceive we finally fell pregnant and  our wish came true. We were so unbelievably happy after such a long time of trying for a baby which brings it's own grief and emotional challenges. 

We carried the baby into the second trimester, and were able to fully relax, let our guards down and share our news and joy with all our loves ones and people in our lives.  We felt - finally this is happening for us, we are so so lucky to be blessed with this opportunity.

Sadly, we then found out that the baby had passed. It's hard to describe the feelings and process that followed as it's still very raw. But we are heartbroken, devastated and traumatised.

We are still in a raw place of grief. To help us with the grieving process we were supported by the midwives in hospital to make a memory box has been helpful to honour our baby's life and the dreams and love we had for our unborn baby. This is something that Sands Charity offers bereaved parents. I have also used the website alot for support and information. They also provide counselling which we will be accessing when ready. 

Big shout out to Tommy's charity too which is just as amazing.

We really want to contribute to raising some money for this charity so support other families with baby loss as it is so important and close to our hearts. 

The physical challenge is also a way for us to help us with our mental wellbeing and routine as we grieve.

I am still recovering physically so this really is a challenge to get the full 50k completed.
