I’m running 50k in May for families facing baby loss

I'm running 50k in May for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

My Updates

A massive thank you!

Thursday 4th Jun
You guys have been so incredibly kind and generous with your donations. It means the world and I think it provides two memory boxes to grieving families.

You're all awesome! Thank you so much from both me and Niamh xx

Niamh completed!

Wednesday 3rd Jun
She's kept running, and just doing a little run here and there, and this has given her so much independence. She's started running back home from cadets, and that's a time she really looks forward to. This challenge has been perfect for her - not so perfect for me haha, but just a case of bad timing.
Thabk you so much for your kind donations.

Niamh's first run!

Friday 15th May
I'm recovering from surgery now and Niamh completed her first run! Unfortunately her iron levels are low so running is difficult right now, but what an absolute bad ass she is! Awesome girl. I'm so, so proud of her 💓

Team effort!

Tuesday 12th May

A bit of a personal update.

Unfortunately, I’m due to undergo essential surgery on Thursday, with an expected recovery time of around 4–6 weeks. That means no running, no gym, and a very frustrating period of being forced to slow down.

One thing that has genuinely moved me, though, is my daughter Niamh offering to take over my Sands challenge for me while I recover — despite the fact she absolutely hates running! Sands have kindly agreed to let her complete the challenge on my behalf.

I’m incredibly proud of her for stepping up like this. It would mean a lot to both of us if anyone felt able to support the fundraiser while she finishes those kilometres for me.

Thank you so much to everyone who’s already donated, shared, encouraged, or checked in on me recently. It genuinely means more than you probably realise ❤️

Nice route!

Sunday 10th May

8.3km!

Thursday 7th May
Feeling good about this run, takes me almost halfway to the distance target!

Horrible run this morning

Wednesday 6th May
Gym was far too hot, air con didn't appear to be on and it felt like an absolute slog. New running shoes don't help either - I'll change back to my battered ones and get outside tomorrow.

4th run

Tuesday 5th May
A little sore from last night's longer run, but every bit counts.

3rd run

Tuesday 5th May
Outdoors is much nicer!

Second run!

Tuesday 5th May

First run done!🏃‍♀️

Friday 1st May
First run done for my 50km Sands bereavement charity challenge. 4km today — slow, but it counts. This one isn’t about pace. It’s about showing up, every time. 💛”
