Done!! 63km!!

🧡 And just like that… it’s over! 63kms completed and over £300 raised!! 🧡

Firstly…. A huge, huge, genuine thank you for everyone who chucked me a few quid ❤️. I know times are brutal and people rattling the virtual charity tin in your face is a massive pain in the arse! I am so grateful to all of you and honestly thought I’d get about 20 quid 🤣

Secondly… thank you to September for not raining on me. I know I look like running should come easy for me but it DOESN’T. I really don’t like it 🤣. And I super don’t like it in the rain. 

But I HAVE enjoyed this. I feel the fittest I have in a long time. I’ve managed some long runs for a girl who normally taps out gasping and swearing at the 5km mark! 

63kms done… and I genuinely only hated 1 of the runs I completed… And the first kilometre of every single one 🤣

63 was not a random number. The choice was two-fold. 

1. my lovely friend (a NICU nurse… showing us all up) did the challenge last year and completed an impressive 60km. As a type-A, middle child, only girl, elder millennial… my brain obviously screamed “MUST WIIIIIN” when she TRICKED me into signing up by daring me to beat her. 
2. A KM for every year Paul West graced this mortal coil. Dad was there experiencing all our loss right along with us. Unfortunately he never got to revel in the brilliance of our rainbow…. And fuck me… he would have loved the bones of this mad kid. So 63… for you Pa. A man who never ran a day in his life 🤣🤣

Why I’m running 🌈❤️

Last night I ironed the school uniform I never imagined I’d buy.

Today I took the “first day of school” photo that feels completely surreal.

After all the years when we never really dared to believe it would happen, after all the losses… here we are, standing at the milestones that exist at the end of the rainbow.

The gratitude I feel to be here is insurmountable. And I’m so acutely aware that we are one of the lucky ones to be in this position.

So this September, I’m taking part in the Sands 50km Challenge —running 50km throughout the month to raise money and awareness for Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity. Sands supports families after the devastation of losing a baby, while also working to improve care and fund research to prevent these losses from happening.

I asked Elliot if he wanted to sponsor me, and he gave me £1 from his money tin. 🥺

So, if anyone would like to match his four-year-old generosity of spirit, I’d be eternally grateful. ❤️

Because every baby lost matters. Every family deserves support. And together, we can help Sands make sure no one has to face baby loss alone.
