I’m running 50k in May for families facing baby loss

I'm running 50k in May for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

50k in May

Monday 20th Apr

This May despite never being a keen or natural runner (I loathe any form of exercise a dog walk is the most motivation I can muster) I am taking on the 50k challenge to support and raise money for Sands charity.

I am the luckiest mum to 3 amazing healthy happy children but I have also suffered loss 3 times in early pregnancy. Like most experiences in life it’s hard to fully understand a situation unless you’ve been through it yourself and I didn’t know anyone else who had. It was a tough time for me and my family and I wish I had known about Sands at that lonely time.

Sands is the UK’s leading pregnancy and baby loss charity and they stand for saving babies' lives and supporting bereaved families. They strive to support everyone touched by pregnancy or baby loss. Always.

Currently, every day in the UK, 13 babies die shortly before, during or soon after birth. At least 1 in 6 of pregnancies end in miscarriage. Thousands of parents and families are experiencing the heartbreak of pregnancy and baby loss every year. Too often, we don’t understand why.

Their specialist bereavement support team offers compassionate, trauma-informed, one-to-one and group support, through bereavement support online, by phone and email. Whilst trained volunteers deliver in-person peer support in local communities through a network of over 130 local groups and Sands United football teams. Together, each year, they host family and remembrance events, providing community and connection.  And they provide digital and physical bereavement resources such as memory boxes.

Their work is totally dependent on supporters and when I saw the 50k in May challenge I signed up without hesitation. If anyone wants to donate the link is below but I hope even just sharing information about Sands means it reaches those that could benefit from seeking their support x
