Sands Knitting Challenge

I’m taking on the Sands Knitting Challenge 💜

I’ve committed to knitting a blanket for a very loved and much missed baby.

I'll be posting regular progress on Instagram at @heartscontentcreates. Give it a follow. And also on this page.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

Here's the lace edging in detail

Finished the blanket!!!

Saturday 14th Mar
I'm pleased to say that I've made the lace edging (first lace I've ever knitted!!) and attached it to complete the blanket. I'm going to send it in to Sands and I hope it brings comfort to a bereaved family somewhere...

Half way there on the blanket...

With the lace edging to add afterwards!

Turning Point

Saturday 17th Jan
am now at the point where I am at the turning point... The blanket is made corner to corner by starting with one stich and increasing each row. When the side is the correct length, the next corner is made by decreasing each row.

As well as making the blanket for bereaved parents I am fundraising to support this vital work.   I'll update this page as the blanket takes shape.

Supporting Sands at Christmas

Thursday 4th Dec
As we move toward Christmas — a season wrapped in imagery of new births and perfect families — it’s important to hold space for those for whom this time can feel tender or heavy. Baby Loss Awareness Week is a reminder that many carry invisible grief, whether they did not choose to be child free or if they have experienced the heartbreak of losing a baby. That is why I’m making hand-crafted white blankets as a small gesture of care, comfort and remembrance for anyone who might need one.

Times are tough, and I’m certainly not expecting grand donations — truly, even a couple of quid makes a real difference and means more than you know. If you’d like to support the work Sands does for bereaved families, make a donation or think about making a blanket yourself.

Thank you for reading, for caring, and for keeping kindness close at what can be a poignant time.
