Sands Knitting Challenge

I’m taking on the Sands Knitting Challenge in memory of Mabel 💜

I'm memory of the beautiful angel baby Mabel Walton wood, I’ve committed to knitting a blanket for a very loved and much missed baby.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

My Updates

She is finished

Monday 1st Dec
Most important item I have ever knitted. I won't lie, I the last few stitches I had tears in my eyes thinking of the fact that the owners of this will be feeling a pain I hope to never comprehend. My heart breaks for that family and I have never even met them. I just hope there is the tiniest bit of comfort for them knowing that what they lay their baby to rest with had been knitted with so much love. This is for all my friends and family who are angel mamas. And in memory of Mabel.

Sowing on the edge

Monday 1st Dec
It comes a bit of time to work out how to do it but I'm on a roll with sowing on the lace edge... Only 1.25 sides left to sow.

Last bit of lace

Friday 28th Nov
Last bit of lace to knit before it's time to stitch it all together

Lace started

Wednesday 19th Nov
First time doing lace and after 4 restart attempts I'm getting the hang of it

Now for the lace

Sunday 16th Nov
Main body of the blanket done. Now for the lace trim. Can you see the hidden heart details added? Adding something to personalise it and make it one of a kind.... Just like the baby it will be holding.

Half way there

Friday 14th Nov
Half way there and can't help but feel moved everything I remember who this will be going to 🪽
