Running for William
Friday 8th May
This May, I’m taking on something completely outside of my comfort zone — I’m running 50K for Sands Bereavement Charity.
And if you know me personally, you’ll know this is no small challenge… because I absolutely hate running.
But this is about so much more than running.
Why I’m Doing This
On the 22nd of January 2020, my life changed forever.
I gave birth to my , William Brant, prematurely at 21 weeks. He was born alive and stayed with us for three and a half precious hours before he passed away.
Nothing can truly prepare you for losing a child. The shock, heartbreak, confusion, and grief are impossible to put into words. In those moments, and in the difficult days that followed, Sands Bereavement Charity were there for us.
They provided support during one of the darkest times of my life. They gave us a memory box filled with beautiful keepsakes, clothing for our baby, photographs, guidance, and support that allowed us to hold onto memories we will treasure forever.
What Sands do for bereaved families is incredibly special. They bring care, dignity, and compassion into moments no parent should ever have to experience.
The Journey After Loss
After losing my son, I was told there was a possibility I may never have children. I was given only an 18% chance of being able to have children in the future.
Hearing those words after already experiencing loss was devastating.
But despite everything, life had other plans for me.
I’m now incredibly lucky to have two beautiful children. They are my absolute world, and I never take that blessing for granted. Our journey hasn’t always been simple or straightforward, but every day I’m reminded of how grateful I am for them.
I truly believe everything happens for a reason, even if we don’t always understand it at the time.
Why This Matters So Much
This challenge is deeply personal.
I’m running in memory of my son.
I’m running for families who have experienced baby loss.
And I’m running to support a charity that helps parents navigate unimaginable grief with kindness, compassion, and understanding.
Every mile I run in May is for something bigger than myself.
Even on the days I want to give up — because trust me, there will be plenty of those — I’ll keep reminding myself why I started.
How You Can Help
If you’re able to donate, no matter how small, it would mean the world to me.
Every donation helps Sands continue supporting families through baby loss, providing resources, memory boxes, bereavement support, and care when it’s needed most.
And if you can’t donate, simply sharing this page or supporting me throughout the challenge genuinely means so much.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, for supporting this challenge, and for helping me turn something painful into something that may help other families.
Here goes 50K… wish me luck 🤍
