I’m taking part in Sands Ribbon Run

I’ve committed to taking part in Sands Ribbon Run which takes place during Baby Loss Awareness Week (9-15 October) for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

£10 - could provide a hand and footprint kit to help create memories.

£20 - could provide a bereaved family with a memory box to help create and keep safe precious and lasting memories of their baby.

£35 - could answer a call from someone reaching out for support who has been through pregnancy loss or the death of a baby.

£100 - could help ensure every hospital in the UK has a dedicated Sands volunteer to help healthcare professionals access our training, guidance and support.

We’re on the road to Nowhere….

Well not quite - I expect it’ll be a circular route to ensure I can travel home (pretty certain Kat and Emma do not want to walk a random 10K around the streets of Newport departing from my doorstep). 

Many of you will know about Clive, my first and very much loved son who was born sleeping. Recently a dear friend has suffered a similar loss and so this October I’m taking part in the Ribbon Walk with Kat and Emma to raise awareness of, and funds for, Sands.

As a mum of three, with two little ones at home, I know I am incredibly lucky - it’s been a tough journey to get my family - and I’ve been fortunate to have such lovely family and friends who’ve supported me for so long on the way. 
However without doubt the support of Sands has been an essential part of finding my current happiness. It’s hard to say that anything about losing Clive was “lucky” but talking to many parents in similar situations I know Andrew and I were. From the “Butterfly Room” furnished by Sands where we could be with Clive and our families to say goodbye, to Memory Boxes, informed and trained Bereavement Midwives, in person meetings, trained and kind volunteers who could provide information and ideas on anything and everything,  and opportunities in a hundred different ways to remember our boy as time has moved, on we could not have made it this far without Sands.  Not everyone who experiences Babyloss is this fortunate. 

So I am sincerely sorry for shaking you down for money - but if you can , and for families like mine, please donate a little and I’ll dust down my training Pork Pie (for those who’ve been around long enough), limber up and walk 10K because with 1 in 4 pregnancies ending in loss there are lots more people who need the support of Sands
