Our story

Like many other families, our family has just experienced the pain and heartbreak of miscarriage and losing a child. 

After a second successful round of IVF, we were so excited to be pregnant again. We were going to become a family of 4 and Jacob was going to have a little brother or sister. A baby, that was technically Jacob’s twin was due just 4 days before his 2nd birthday. 

At our 12 week scan, after no warning signs or problems, we found that the perfect little baby that should be looking back at us, had stopped growing around 10 weeks. The heart we had seen beating so strongly at an early scan was still. 

The pain and devastation was like something neither of us had ever felt. Everything we had pictured, every announcement we had practiced and Jacob’s “big brother” T-shirt just frozen in time. 

The day of the actual miscarriage was the worst day of my life. Seeing our baby so small and helpless was one thing, but seeing the pain Robyn was in, and feeling the wave of fear wash over me as she was rushed to hospital with complications was another. 

Through everything we have experienced and every conversation we have had, what has become abundantly clear is that this affects so many more families than we ever imagined. So we have decided that the best tribute we can give to the baby who was with us so fleetingly, is to celebrate them. We will talk about them for years to come and they will always be part of our story. 

This year we are taking part the Sands Ribbon run (or walk in our case) and inviting everyone to join us. Help us to bring baby loss out of the shadows and prove there is a community of people ready to support you during some of the darkest times.
