I’m running 50k in September for families facing baby loss

I'm running 50k in September for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that fewer families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

My younger brother Oscar turned 16 this year, not very far away from adulthood. It would've been the same for Felix, Oscar's twin, my other brother - but he unfortunately passed away in utero before the boys' due date. The why is unknown, and the journey for the family for the rest of pregnancy and after was bittersweet. On the one hand, thankfully, Oscar lived and has since grown up to be a very fine young man. I couldn't be a prouder older sister of his achievements so far. But on the other hand, we lost a beloved family member.

This is where Sands came in all those years ago, especially for my parents, who I know bore this tragedy with immense grace all things considered. The group in our local area provided really good support for us as a family, my main memory being able to gather with other bereaved families to plant snowdrops in honour of the little lives lost.

Given how long it's been since those days and seeing Oscar all grown up, I want to give something back to Sands. Not just as a thank you for being there when my family needed it most, I hope that my contribution, of whatever size, can help towards other families who experience the same loss. I know my parents were extremely grateful for the support they received.

Yet most importantly: I'm doing this for Felix - you are so loved and never forgotten, little brother x
