I’m walking 100K in September for my son Sage
Sage was born sleeping at 22 weeks on the 19th March 2026.
My partner Charlotte and I started our IVF journey in January 2025. We sadly lost our first baby to a missed miscarriage at 9 weeks 6 days, before becoming pregnant with Sage. After everything we’d already been through, reaching 20 weeks with a healthy, thriving little boy felt huge. We genuinely thought we were finally going to bring our baby home.
Then, at 22 weeks, everything changed.
Early one morning, my waters broke unexpectedly (PPROM) and I suffered a cord prolapse. Sage was still alive when we reached hospital, but sadly he died shortly afterwards. I gave birth to our beautiful little boy, weighing 1lb 3oz (just 540g) at 9.44pm that evening.
We’re still incredibly early in our grief and learning how to live with a future that looks very different from the one we had imagined. But one thing Charlotte and I have known from the beginning is that we want to keep saying his name. We want people to know that Sage was here, that he is loved beyond words, and that he will always be our son.
So this September, I’m walking 100 kilometres for him.
I’m doing it for Sage, for the baby we lost before him, and for every family who has had to leave hospital without their baby.
I’m raising money for Sands, who support families through pregnancy and baby loss, campaign for change, train healthcare professionals and fund research to help save babies’ lives.

And every single one of those 100 kilometres will be for my boy.

I’m completely blown away
Friday 11th SepWhen I decided to do this, I set myself a fundraising target of £200. That would have been enough to provide memory boxes for eight bereaved families.
Our own memory box was given to us by Sands in hospital after Sage was born, and it is one of the most precious things we own. So knowing we could help give that to eight other families felt like a really meaningful goal.
We have now raised over £1,000, and I genuinely can’t quite comprehend the kindness and generosity of so many people.
I’ve increased my target a few times because every time I think we might be reaching the limit, more people donate. At this point, I just want to see how much we can possibly raise for a charity that has supported us through the hardest time of our lives.
I’m also really enjoying the walking itself. It gives me space and time to think about my boy, to talk to him, remember him and feel close to him. There’s something really special about knowing that every kilometre I walk is for Sage.
