I’m running 2k a day in January for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to running 2k a day this January for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

My Updates

Injuries and all sorts

Sunday 18th Jan
Since starting this, I was excited and far too optimistic of doing 2km per day. Not because I couldn’t but because I didn’t factor in the stress on the body.

So far I’ve had:
- knee pain
- back pain
- ankle pain
- numb feet when running
- skin fissure (rip in the skin, common - 3-5 days recovery meant to have)

Moving into the latter of the month I need to pick it up about. What I haven’t been recording is I’ll do an outside circuit at 0600-0700am almost every morning consisting of heavy weights, running, squats etc and all these aren’t being recorded however are affecting the run later in the day - obviously.

Dig in and dig deep

Thanks for all your support, sometimes the app doesn’t work so updating daily progress is often delayed but I’m still out grinding.

Illness

Friday 9th Jan
For a few days this week I was unwell. I should start making the KM’s back day by day now.

The 5km run was probably the first 5km run I’ve done in years, like genuinely. I remember back in Parkrun days (2017?) I got a time of 27 minutes so for me to be able to get 29 minutes on this after an illness to me is huge progress both mentally and physically.

In Memory of Alfie Heslop

Thursday 1st Jan

Losing our son, Alfie Heslop, to stillbirth changed our lives forever. The pain of becoming parents without our baby in our arms is something no family should ever have to face.

During our darkest moments, this charity was there for us. They offered compassion, understanding, and support when we felt completely lost. They helped us feel less alone, acknowledged Alfie as our son, and reminded us that our grief — and our love for him — truly matters.

This charity gave us comfort when we needed it most, and because of that, it means the world to us.

By fundraising, we hope to give other families the same care, understanding, and support that helped us through our heartbreak. No parent should have to walk this journey alone.

Thank you for helping us honour Alfie’s memory and support families when they need it most.

With love,

Alfie’s parents 💙

We were lucky enough to have our own little Alfie born this year, not without issue but I can't imagine what you've gone/going through. Hear if you need an ear, give this Jan your all mate!
