2026 Ribbon Run Virtual

I’m taking part in Sands Ribbon Run

I’ve committed to taking part in Sands Ribbon Run which takes place during Baby Loss Awareness Week (9-15 October) for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

£20 - could provide a bereaved family with a memory box to help create and keep safe precious and lasting memories of their baby.

£35 - could answer a call from someone reaching out for support who has been through pregnancy loss or the death of a baby.

£100 - could help ensure every hospital in the UK has a dedicated Sands volunteer to help healthcare professionals access our training, guidance and support.

My story

Wednesday 16th Sep
In honour of our beautiful baby,Magellan Hernandez-Rowe, born sleeping on 13th September 2024.

We lost our baby when I was 22 weeks and 3 days pregnant. It was a time of overwhelming grief, shock and heartbreak, and one I never imagined I would have to navigate.

During that dark period, Sands were there for us. Their support meant more than I can ever put into words. The memory box they provided holds some of my most treasured keepsakes, gentle reminders that our baby existed, was loved, and will never be forgotten. Those small but deeply meaningful acts made an unbearable situation feel just a little less lonely.

Sands do incredible work supporting bereaved parents and families through baby loss and pregnancy loss. They offer compassion, understanding and comfort at a time when the world feels like it has fallen apart.

Less than one month after the loss of Magellan, and just one day after her funeral, Baby Loss Awareness Week started and I made the decision to take part in the Sands Ribbon Run. It gave me a sense of purpose during an incredibly painful time and allowed me to commemorate Magellan in a way that felt right for us. It gave me strength and the confidence to share our story, so that others facing similar circumstances never have to feel alone.

I am running the Ribbon Run in Cardiff for the third year in dedication to Sands, to give back to the charity that supported me when I needed it most, and to help ensure that other grieving families receive the same care, kindness and support.

My fundraising target reflects Magellan's birth weight, making this run an even more personal tribute.

Sadly, too many people will face similar circumstances, but no one should ever have to go through that pain alone.

Thank you for supporting this cause and for helping Sands continue their vital work.
