I’m running 50k in September for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to running 50k in September for every much-loved baby sadly not here today. You know, I've got no direct experience of baby loss, but I count my lucky stars every day for my three beautiful kids and when this came up, it felt like something I had to support.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you very much.

My Updates

Run 19 - 0.5km to go!

Monday 29th Sep
Well, I've all but done it - one day of the month remaining and less than a kilometre to go. It's been tougher than I expected: my shins are a bit of a mess and going downstairs (only down) is a lot of effort. But when tomorrow comes, I'll hit the target and earn your generous sponsorship for Sands and their vital work.

On to the finish line!

Run 15... tired and achey!

Monday 22nd Sep
I won't lie, I thought the challenge would get easier. It isn't, quite the opposite. I'm fighting shin splints and twisted an ankle a few runs ago, and it's definitely not helping my stamina any. That said, I'm still going (slowly) and I'm getting the mileage I need to complete this thing. Still ending each run a breathless sweaty mess. I'm seriously earning your donations, I promise!

9 runs down!

Sunday 14th Sep
Well, the latest runs have been tough, but I'm still at it, haven't missed a planned run and I'm on schedule to finish on schedule. Well prepared to pull some longer runs, or more runs a day in that final week if needed, but here approaching halfway, I should be just about hitting half my planned distance. Pleased to be doing this, happy to know I'm paying for your generous donations in sweat, and keeping at it!

Enjoy! The lake looked lovely today

4 runs in the bag

Friday 5th Sep
Wow, I knew I would have to do this but I'm still proud of myself for getting out there 4 days in 5 since the start of the month. 2 days on, 1 off seems a good cadence. I've added a little distance each time.

I know for some of you my total so far is probably half your easy daily run, but rest assured this is a lot for me! That said I'm motivated and feeling positive 💪

First 2 runs down...

Tuesday 2nd Sep
This website is a bit janky. It's showing 0km logged, but an average of 1km per run. Meanwhile in my profile, it's logged a 1km run and a 2km run - I entered 1.25km and 1.5km. But the "1st run completed" badge thingy hasn't lit up... 🤔

Rest assured, whatever the website total says, I'm doing it, and I'll do the 50km for real. I'm tracking it via Strava and pausing recording when/if I have to walk (no walking today 💪). It's been good! I'm surprised how far I'm managing without stops, definitely unexpected. Of course, it will get tougher in some ways (more stress on the ol' body), and easier in others (hopefully building fitness, muscles etc).

I'm going to get this done for all you generous sponsors, and for this great cause. Here's to you! 🍻

Let's do this!

Thursday 28th Aug
I'll be running 50k in September for Sands, who support families who have lost babies. No special reason, it's just a heartbreaking thing for anyone to endure and I want to fundraiser for them. I haven't run in almost a year. I will finish this challenge, and I'm even thinking stretch goals. If you felt like sponsoring £1 I'd be ever so grateful. It's an amazing cause.

Sands is an incredible charity who helped my sister when her firstborn passed away after being born prematurely. A very worthy cause. Thank you Stu!
