Walking 100k steps for Sands: Walking in memory of baby Taylor

In September, I will be taking on a challenge that means so much more to us than simply reaching 100,000 steps.

I’ll be walking 100k throughout September to raise money for Sands, a charity that supports people and families affected by pregnancy and baby loss.

This is something that has become incredibly close to our hearts after we miscarried our baby in April 2026.

We had been told that we would likely need help to have a baby, and IVF was something we thought we would eventually have to turn to.

Then, completely unexpectedly, we found out we were pregnant on Mother’s Day. 

We had conceived naturally.

I don’t think we will ever be able to put into words what that moment felt like. After years of trying and being told we might need help, seeing that positive pregnancy test was the most amazing and completely shocking feeling in the world. For the first time, we allowed ourselves to imagine becoming parents.

We had so many hopes and dreams for our little baby.

Sadly, our happiness didn’t last as long as we desperately wished it could. In April, we lost our baby.

Nothing really prepares you for pregnancy loss. There is no easy way to explain the emptiness that follows, or how difficult it can be to carry on with everyday life while a part of you feels like it has stopped.

But something we have learned through our experience is that baby loss doesn’t just disappear because time passes. Our baby will always be part of our story. We will always wonder who they would have been, what they would have looked like, and what our life would have been like with them here.

That’s why, this September, i’m walking for our baby.

Walking the 100k to give myself something positive to focus on, to raise awareness of pregnancy and baby loss, and to raise money for Sands, so that other families going through something similar can receive the support they deserve.

There have been moments during our journey when we’ve felt completely lost, and knowing that charities like Sands exist reminds us that we aren’t alone.

100,000 steps for a little life that meant everything to us.

We may not have been able to bring our baby home, but we can carry their memory with us.

So throughout September, i’ll be walking, remembering, talking about our baby and raising money in their memory.
