Run 2k a Day in February 2026

I’m running 2k a day in Febuary for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to running 2k a day this February for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

Why am I doing this?

Wednesday 21st Jan

This year, my reason for taking part in the SANDS Run 2K a Day challenge is deeply personal.

I am running in memory of my niece, She never got the chance to take her first breath, but she will always be part of our family. Her loss changed us forever, and like so many families affected by baby loss, we carry our grief quietly, every single day.

Why SANDS Matters to Me

SANDS – the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity – supports families through one of the most heartbreaking experiences imaginable: losing a baby. When a baby dies, the world often doesn’t know what to say, and families are left navigating shock, grief, and silence.

SANDS provides vital emotional support, resources, and community to parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and everyone affected by the loss of a baby. They also work tirelessly to improve maternity and neonatal care, helping to save lives in the future.

Knowing that charities like SANDS exist brings comfort, hope, and reassurance that no family has to face this pain alone.

The Challenge: 2K a Day

The challenge is to run or walk 2 kilometres every day. Some days it feels manageable; other days it feels heavy — physically and emotionally. But that’s exactly why this challenge matters.

Grief doesn’t disappear after the funeral. It doesn’t have an end date. Showing up every day for this challenge reflects the reality of living with loss: you keep going, carrying love and sadness side by side.

Every kilometre I complete is for my niece. For the life that should have been, and for the love that will always remain.

Breaking the Silence Around Baby Loss

Stillbirth affects thousands of families each year, yet it’s a subject many feel uncomfortable talking about. Taking part in this challenge is also about breaking that silence — acknowledging that these babies existed, mattered, and are deeply missed.

Running helps turn grief into action, remembrance into purpose, and loss into something that can help others.

How You Can Support

If you’re able to support this challenge, I would be incredibly grateful:

  • Donate – Every contribution helps SANDS continue their life-changing support
  • Share – Raising awareness helps break the stigma around baby loss
  • Remember – By supporting SANDS, you help honour babies who are gone but never forgotten

Your kindness helps ensure families like mine receive understanding, compassion, and support when they need it most.
