2026 Ribbon Run Virtual

I’m taking part in Sands Ribbon Run

I’ve committed to taking part in Sands Ribbon Run which takes place during Baby Loss Awareness Week (9-15 October) for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

£20 - could provide a bereaved family with a memory box to help create and keep safe precious and lasting memories of their baby.

£35 - could answer a call from someone reaching out for support who has been through pregnancy loss or the death of a baby.

£100 - could help ensure every hospital in the UK has a dedicated Sands volunteer to help healthcare professionals access our training, guidance and support.

For Lara 🎀

Thursday 13th Aug

On 28th September 2019, my daughter Lara Isabella was born sleeping.
She weighed 5lb 10oz, and she was absolutely perfect.
I had spent nine months imagining the moment I would finally meet my little girl , imagining her opening her eyes, hearing her cry, bringing her home and watching her grow.
Instead, I left hospital carrying memories of my daughter and an empty car seat waiting at home.
Lara's story is something I have shared before, but six years on, I don't want her story to simply be about the day we lost her. She was my daughter, and she will always be part of our family.
Her loss was made even more complicated by the fact that my own life was also in danger. I had suffered a significant internal bleed, and I was told that if Lara hadn't been inside me when it happened, I might not have survived either.
In the strangest and most heartbreaking way, my little girl saved my life.
I remember coming home to a nursery I had spent months preparing. Her clothes were waiting for her. Everything was ready for the little girl we had spent so long waiting for, but she wasn't coming home.
That kind of loss changes you.
There are things about baby loss that are difficult to explain unless you've lived it. You don't just lose the baby you were expecting. You lose all of the moments you had already imagined , the first smile, the first steps, birthdays, Christmases, watching them grow and discovering who they would become.
And yet, amongst all of that heartbreak, there is still so much love.
That is one of the reasons Sands is so important to me. They exist because families experiencing baby loss need somewhere to turn. They provide support, raise awareness, campaign for better care and work to make sure bereaved parents don't have to navigate this devastating experience feeling completely alone.
I have supported Sands before, and I raised £1,326 for them following Lara's death. Six years later, I want to do it again.
So in October, I'm taking on the Sands Ribbon Run 15K in Lara's memory.
I'm doing it for my daughter.
For the babies who should be here.
For the parents who have had to leave hospital without their baby.
And for the families who will sadly find themselves walking this path in the future.
Lara would be nearly seven now. I often wonder who she would be, what she would look like, what she would love and what it would be like to watch her grow up alongside her brother's and sister.
I'll never get to know those things.
But I can make sure her name is spoken. I can make sure she is remembered. And I can turn some of the pain of losing her into something that might help another family.
