2026 Knitting Challenge

I’m knitting for families facing baby loss

I'm knitting for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

Knitting Progress!

Sunday 20th Sep
Knitting this first blanket has been such an emotional rollarcoaster! I’ve faced my own grief and had to deal with it and grow past it - knitting this little blanket for a baby no longer here has been so helpful and calming. The messages from the Sands team offering support and encouragement have meant the world and I’ve found the charity to spend all my white wool and time on! God bless you all reading this and bless the little ones we never got to hold.

My beginning

Saturday 5th Sep
✨earlier this year I became 1 in 8 women to experience early miscarriage whilst actively on the implant for birth control ✨

✨I went through weeks of emotional turmoil and started out very adamant I wanted to abort as it was unplanned but changed my mind and began naming the baby… a few days later I found out my HCG was dropping and the bleeding was increasing and wasn’t implantation bleeding it was the beginning of an early term miscarriage.

✨The intense guilt and anger I’ve felt at myself over the past months has been insane - “why didn’t I know?!” “Did this cause the miscarriage?!” “Did I hurt the baby…” when the doctors reassured me I did nothing wrong it simply is 10-20% of early pregnancy ends in miscarriage ✨

✨Finding out I was actively miscarrying via a phone call at work was the hardest - I was surrounded by colleagues, customers and babies… ✨

✨My amazing grandmother has taught me to knit as a small child using straws (I wasn’t trusted with needles…rude!) and now I will be knitting from now until next year - the baby clothes I knit will range from preemie to around a year old and be donated to charity ✨

I can’t thank my family enough for being there, phone calls, hospital visits…. It has been a tough year for us all but it’s made me realize in a few years time one baby wouldn’t be so bad…. Thank you for reading my little story - don’t feel pressure to donate ❤️
