Run 2k a Day in February 2026

I’m running 5k a day in February for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to running 5k a day this February for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

My story

Thursday 19th Feb
On 22nd August 2005, my first baby Imogen was born asleep at 23 weeks. A day I’ll never forget.
You never think it’s going to happen to you. Well I didn’t. At the 12 week scan everything was fine, I was out of the “danger zone”. At the 20 week scan, baby was confirmed to be doing well, no issues. Less than a few weeks later, I went to the hospital because I hadn’t felt baby move.
Nothing prepares you for what happens next. They couldn’t find a heartbeat and I was booked in a day later to give birth.
I had to give birth on the labour ward, knowing that I was going home with empty arms. The staff were amazing and so respectful. One member of staff even stayed past the end of her shift.
After I gave birth, I was given the chance to hold her and the hospital chaplain came and did a blessing
I was given photos and prints of her feet. They couldn’t do her hand prints because she had them curled up into tiny fists
Nothing prepares you for walking off the labour ward without your baby
The postmortem report showed that she had contracted pneumonia in the womb. So rare that my consultant said that I was only the second case that he’d heard of
I didn’t use Sands. I dealt with it in my own way but I know more than anyone how vital this charity is for bereaved parents and this is why I’m running 5k a day
In memory of my baby girl Imogen 💜
