I’m walking 100K in September for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to walking 100K in September for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Day 6 - a moment of reflection

Sunday 6th Sep
As part of my walk this morning I visited Jack’s grave, when he was stillborn I wanted to have a lasting memorial to him.

We had a very small funeral with a short reading and prayers at the grave side. I don’t visit often even though it is walkable and I drive past the cemetery  twice a day, it is generally events like his birthday and Christmas etc when we visit as a family. 

For everyone who has supported me so far with donations and those yet to do so I would like to say another thank you and please get on with donating for those who haven’t! 

When you have a stillborn child depending on how it comes about the ‘process’ of giving birth if you know your child has passed is a devastating one, the positive side is the support of the midwives and doctors and for them it must also be horrific (maybe wrong word but..) 

You are generally asked if you want to take hand and feet prints of your little one and have pictures taken (also with you) and while my wife and I am told our oldest daughter looks at the memory box, I haven’t looked in over 14 years and still not ready - I might never be! 

To emphasise how important Jack’s memory box is when our neighbours house had a fire many years ago now I was instructed to grab our passports and other key paperwork in case it spread but also we took the memory box with us, in this few hours whilst we were out of our house (thankfully not affected) the memory box reminded us of how Jack will always be part of us and his sisters lives.
