2026 Ribbon Run Virtual

I’m taking part in Sands Ribbon Run

I’ve committed to taking part in Sands Ribbon Run which takes place during Baby Loss Awareness Week (9-15 October) for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

£20 - could provide a bereaved family with a memory box to help create and keep safe precious and lasting memories of their baby.

£35 - could answer a call from someone reaching out for support who has been through pregnancy loss or the death of a baby.

£100 - could help ensure every hospital in the UK has a dedicated Sands volunteer to help healthcare professionals access our training, guidance and support.

My Updates

130km complete!

Friday 9th Oct
I fell a bit behind with the updates over the last week but the kilometres have been getting run all the same! 130km in 30 days for Sands…✅ 💙🩷 I have hoped to see a rainbow on each of these runs, poignant that it finally happened today during a beautiful 8km on the first day of Baby Loss Awareness Week. 🌈 When I first decided to do this challenge, I did not realise just how much it would mean to put on my Sands t-shirt and run with such an important purpose. These runs have taken in routes I’ve travelled on the darkest of days as well as many happy ones. Space for reflection as we move towards the time of year which gets increasingly heavy. Special thoughts of babies I’ve heard the stories of and their incredible families who carry their memory with every step. And of course at the centre of it, Finlay. The one who made me a mum and is never further than a thought away. Looking forward to tomorrow morning’s Ribbon Run and running or walking with the rest of team Aberdeen in memory of our babies. 🩷💙 🏃🏻‍♀️

Day 19-21

Wednesday 30th Sep
Drawn to the beach on an early morning 5k while the sun was rising on Day 19! The photo doesn’t do the view justice. I don’t usually stop while running but slowing down rather than ‘just getting it done’ has given space to really notice what’s around me while choosing something to photograph. Treadmill runs on days 20/21 have taken me up to a total of 94km….. 36 to go!

Day 17/18

Wednesday 30th Sep
A quick treadmill 5k for day 17 but was great to get back outside running the following day. Treated to a special sky!

Day 12-16

Wednesday 30th Sep
I have managed to fall behind with these updates! Day 12 was a 5k along the beach. Many of these runs are around the routes I used to pace in the early months after Finlay died, walking for miles and miles every day. Running these routes for the purpose of this challenge is giving important space for thoughts, particularly as we approach the time of year which holds so many memories. This run took me to over the half way mark which was helpful as days 14-16 were a write off due to circumstances!

Day 5-11

Sunday 20th Sep
6 days of treadmill runs at home this week due to circumstance but great to be back out for a hilly 12km this morning. Mixture of town, beach and country - so grateful to live where we do. A total of 40km run this week. 62.2km down, 67.8km to go!

Day 4

Sunday 13th Sep
5.5km round the forest with my enthusiastic running buddy! 🐶 This photo gives no justice to the mega incline just climbed!

Days 2 and 3

Sunday 13th Sep
Day 2 was a treadmill 5k. My aim is to run as many of these km outside as possible but the treadmill at home is handy too! Day 3 was an out and back up past the golf course. 7.3km. The sea was calm and despite the weather threatening otherwise, it stayed dry too! 113.3 to go!

Day 1!

Thursday 10th Sep
First run of the 130km from 10.9-10.10. Beautiful calm morning for running up (then down!) a big hill! 5.4km down… 124.6 to go!
