Day 1/28 for our beautiful Lacey-Mae

I’ve signed up to run 2k every day throughout February in memory of my niece, Lacey-Mae, who was born on 16 January 2015 — the most perfectly formed little angel.

Today was my first 2k run. It came after a heavy night out, and just three minutes in I wanted to stop. But then my mind went back to walking into the SCBU and seeing my sister’s heartbroken face as she went to be with her daughter. From there, my thoughts raced to the funeral, and the unimaginable strength it took for my sister to bury her baby.

In that moment, the run stopped feeling like a challenge. Compared to what my sister went through, this is nothing — and if she could survive that, I can put one foot in front of the other every day this month.

I’m doing this to honour Lacey-Mae, to support families affected by infant loss, and to help raise awareness so fewer families have to experience this kind of heartbreak. If my running can help in even a small way, every step will be worth it.
