Running for Oscar🩵

For my beautiful boy, Oscar. For every baby who should be here today.


I’ve committed to taking part in the Sands Ribbon Run during Baby Loss Awareness Week (9–15 October), and honestly, I never imagined that I would ever be writing something like this.


I never imagined that at 19 years old, I would have a baby to grieve rather than a baby to bring home.


My beautiful boy, Oscar, was born sleeping on 7 June 2026 at 2:21am.


During my pregnancy, we were told that Oscar had severe brain abnormalities. We were faced with conversations and decisions that no parent should ever have to hear or make. At 25 weeks pregnant, I had to say goodbye to my baby before I had even had the chance to watch him grow up.


I had imagined everything for Oscar.


I imagined meeting him for the first time.

I imagined bringing him home.

I imagined his first smile, his first Christmas, his first birthday.

I imagined watching him grow into the little boy he was meant to become.


Instead, I had to give birth to my baby knowing that I would never get to hear him cry, take him home, or watch him grow.


There is no easy way to describe what that feels like.


I left the hospital with empty arms, while my whole world had changed forever.


But Oscar was here. He was real. He was loved. He was my son. And although I can’t watch him grow up, I will spend the rest of my life making sure that he is remembered.


That is why I am doing the Sands Ribbon Run.


I am running for Oscar.


I am running for the babies whose parents had already chosen their names, imagined their futures and loved them long before they were born.


I am running for the parents who have had to leave hospital with empty arms.


I am running for the families who have had to learn how to carry grief alongside everyday life.


And I am running because baby loss shouldn’t be something we feel we have to suffer through silently.


Sands supports families who have experienced the death of a baby, helping parents feel less alone and giving them somewhere to turn when their world has been turned upside down. That support means more than I could ever properly put into words.


This run will probably be one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. There will be moments when I wish I didn’t have to do it, because I wish more than anything that I was preparing for a future with Oscar instead.


I can’t change what happened to my son.


I can’t bring him home.


But I can make sure his life meant something. I can say his name. I can tell his story. I can raise awareness. And I can help another family feel a little less alone.


So on that run, every single step will be for my boy.


Oscar, you should be here.


You will always be my baby.

You will always be my son.

And you will always be worth running for.


For Oscar. For all the babies. Always. 🤍🕊️
