I’m joining the Sands Ribbon Run in October 2026
After my first pregnancy ended in miscarriage, I decided to take part in the Sands Ribbon 15km Run during Baby Loss Awareness Week on Saturday 10th October in memory of every baby sadly not here today.
I was shocked by the grief my boyfriend and I experienced following our miscarriage. It made me realise how much of a lack of awareness there still is around the impact that any kind of baby loss can have on those who experience it.
I knew miscarriage was common, but I wasn’t prepared for the loneliness and shame I felt. In my head I’d failed by being unable to bring our unborn baby into the world.
One of the hardest things about both pregnancy and miscarriage for me is that, in most cases, you have no control over the outcome. Learning to trust my body is something I continue to work on as we move forward on our journey.
Miscarriage is something we should continue to talk about openly so that we can better understand and support ourselves and each other through it.
Sands ensures that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and fewer families experience the tragedy of losing a baby.
I'm so grateful for any donations, big or small. Thank you! 🫶🏻
£20 – could provide a bereaved family with a memory box to help create and keep safe precious, lasting memories of their baby.
£35 – could answer a call from someone reaching out for support who has been through pregnancy loss or the death of a baby.
£100 – could help ensure every hospital in the UK has a dedicated Sands volunteer to help healthcare professionals access training, guidance, and support.

Izzy, so proud of you for bringing awareness to this and speaking openly about something that goes quietly unacknowledged a lot of the time. Sending love xxx
