My 10K Swim for SANDS In Memory of My Little Ones
In November, I’ll be swimming 10 kilometres to raise money for SANDS, a charity that supports families through the unimaginable pain of baby loss and works to prevent it from happening in the future.
This challenge is deeply personal to me.
Over the past two years, I’ve experienced the heartbreak of multiple miscarriages tiny lives that began within me but never got the chance to grow. Each pregnancy brought hope, fear, and love beyond words… and each loss left a piece of me missing.
The pain of miscarriage isn’t just physical it’s emotional, isolating, and life changing. People often don’t talk about early loss, but for those of us who’ve carried and loved those babies, it’s real. It’s grief for someone we never got to meet, but who will always be part of us.
I’ve spent months navigating the waves of grief from hope to heartbreak, from silence to tears that feel endless. There were days I didn’t know how to keep going. Days I felt broken, empty, and unseen. But now, I want to take that pain and turn it into purpose.
This swim is my way of honouring the babies I carried, the love I’ll always have for them, and every parent who knows what it’s like to leave the hospital with empty arms.
Each length I swim will be for them
for the little lives that ended too soon,
for the mothers and fathers grieving quietly,
for the families holding onto memories instead of milestones.
SANDS provides vital support for those facing this loss, funds research into why it happens, and helps hospitals improve care for bereaved families. Their work gives comfort, understanding, and hope things that mean everything when you’ve lost so much.
