2026 Ribbon Run Virtual

I’m taking part in Sands* 5k Ribbon Walk on Sunday 11 October

Dear friends and colleagues,

Firstly, I apologise for sharing this with anyone who may not wish to be reminded of baby loss due to their own personal circumstances.

I have kept this experience very private, but I am now at a point where I feel able to use what I have been through to help raise awareness and support others.

On Tuesday 25 August, I sadly lost my baby at 13 weeks pregnant.

This was my first pregnancy, and I experienced a missed miscarriage, which meant I had to undergo surgical management.

Ironically, a few hours before the surgery, I also experienced the physical pain of a natural miscarriage. The whole experience was painful and it is something I am still processing.

As a Muslim, my faith keeps me strong and I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to experience motherhood.

However, at early stages of pregnancy, baby loss is very often not spoken about.

And that's why I want this small campaign to help remind mothers (and fathers) that their baby loss matters and that they are not alone.

As part of Baby Loss Awareness Week (9th–15th October), I will be taking part in a 5K walk to raise money and awareness for Sands.  As part of the walk, I will be walking to the Gardens of Peace, a beautiful Muslim cemetery, where my baby is buried. I plan to complete the walk on Sunday 11 October.

However, every woman’s experience is different, and there is no right or wrong way to grieve.  Every woman should feel free to either share her story privately, speak openly, or not share at all; without judgement or pressure. For women who do choose to share, it may give another women the courage to talk when she feels ready or feel some comfort.

Any donation, no matter how big or small, would be appreciated.

With love,

Farhanah

Affa, i’m so incredibly sorry for your loss. you’re someone who is so selfless, who does so much good for others and brings so much goodness into this world. it feels so unfair, and i think it’s okay to sit with that feeling and question why. but God does give his toughest soldiers, the most difficult battles. may Allah grant you and your family sabr, strength and healing through this unimaginable pain. may He grant your precious baby the highest rank in Jannah and reunite you all there one day, in a place where there is no more pain or sadness. you’re in my duas, always. 🤍
