2026 November Swimming Challenge

I’m swimming in November for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to swimming this November for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change and provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals so that fewer babies die and fewer families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

Ralphie — Forever Our Little Boy, Forever in Our Hearts ❤️

As a Nanny, there are certain moments in life that stay with you forever. Some bring the greatest joy, and others leave a sadness that words can never truly explain.

Nine years ago, my son and his partner welcomed their beautiful twin boys into the world. Both little boys arrived far too early, at just 25 weeks, beginning their lives in a world they weren't quite ready for.

One of those precious little boys was Ralphie, my grandson.

Sadly, Ralphie wasn't strong enough to survive. He was just so tiny, and heartbreakingly, we had to face the reality that his little life would be far too short.

His twin brother, Reggie, weighed just 1lb 11oz when he was born. Today, he is nine years old.

As a family, we went through an incredibly traumatic time. Watching your own child and their partner experience the loss of their baby is something no parent wants to witness. As a Nanny, you want to wrap your family in your arms, take away their pain and somehow make everything okay again. But sometimes, there is nothing you can do to take that pain away. Sometimes, there simply aren't any words.

And that helpless feeling stays with you.

Ralphie may not have had the opportunity to grow up alongside his brother, but he will always be Reggie's twin, my grandson, and a much-loved part of our family. His life mattered. His place in our family matters. And he will never be forgotten.

I think one of the hardest things about baby loss is that people often don't know what to say. They worry about saying the wrong thing, so sometimes they say nothing at all. But for families experiencing such a devastating loss, having someone who will listen, acknowledge their baby and understand that their grief is real can mean more than words can express.

This is why I've recently joined Sands.

Sands is a charity that is incredibly close to my heart because I've seen the heartbreak of baby loss touch my own family. I know how important compassion, understanding and support can be during the darkest of times.

I want to do something positive in Ralphie's memory. If I can help raise awareness, support this amazing charity and help other families feel less alone, then that would mean the world to me.

No family should ever have to feel that their baby's life has been forgotten. No parent should have to navigate such heartbreak without support.

I hope that by sharing our story and raising a little money for Sands, I can play a small part in helping other families who find themselves facing the unimaginable.

Every donation, no matter how big or small, would mean so much. Every act of kindness can help Sands continue supporting families when they need it most.

This is for you, Ralphie, our precious little boy.

You may not have been here for long, but you will always be loved. You will always be remembered. And you will always have a special place in your Nanny's heart.

Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever our family. ❤️

In loving memory of Ralphie, and for all the precious babies who are loved beyond measure and never forgotten.
