2026 Walk 100k in September

Bring on the challenge

I’ve committed to walking 100K in September for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

Zack’s 18th birthday

Sunday 6th Sep
Yesterday was Zack’s 18th birthday. A huge milestone for any parent but one of so many mixed emotions here.  I don’t know what I expected, but I wasn’t prepared for how emotional I felt yesterday. After all, so much time has passed, I am at peace with what happened and I assumed that I’d feel a bit sad and then just get on with my day. Turns out there were a lot of unexpected tears and a feeling of being terribly sad. A feeling I’ve not felt for a long time. Despite the day, I managed my longest walk to date and I am proud that I did that on Zack’s birthday in his memory. I’d rather have been taking him out for a pint though, or a bottle of fizz. We had a birthday tea out, and birthday cake too, just a shame the birthday boy couldn’t be there.

2026 is a big year

Thursday 6th Aug

2026 is a big year. I had a big birthday… and our son Zack should be turning 18 in September. Seems a good time to set myself a challenge in his memory and also to raise money for SANDS.  I will forever be grateful for the support I had from SANDS in the early years and the friends I made through their forums who were also dealing with their own losses

So I’m going to walk 100,000 km in September, Zack's birthday month. With my middle aged body and dodgy joints it’s definitely going to be a challenge.  But it’s all for an amazing cause and in memory of  someone very special so I will do it.

I know that money is tight for so many at the moment but if you can spare a pound or two, please consider a donation to help me on my way.
