I’m taking part in Sands Ribbon Run

I’ve committed to taking part in Sands Ribbon Run which takes place during Baby Loss Awareness Week (9-15 October) for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

£10 - could provide a hand and footprint kit to help create memories.

£20 - could provide a bereaved family with a memory box to help create and keep safe precious and lasting memories of their baby.

£35 - could answer a call from someone reaching out for support who has been through pregnancy loss or the death of a baby.

£100 - could help ensure every hospital in the UK has a dedicated Sands volunteer to help healthcare professionals access our training, guidance and support.

In Loving Memory of Helena Summer

Wednesday 10th Sep
Five months into our pregnancy, our world shifted forever. 
We were expecting a beautiful baby girl—our Helena Summer.
 From the beginning, we knew our journey would be different. 
Helena was diagnosed with Down syndrome and hydrops fetalis, a rare condition that caused fluid to build up in her chest and head. We held onto hope through every test, every scan, every doctor’s visit. 
We prepared our hearts for every possible outcome.
Helena was strong. 
For months, she stayed with us, teaching us more about love, resilience, and what it means to be parents than we ever thought possible. But eventually, our little girl’s condition led to a pregnancy complication, and we had to say goodbye far too soon.
Our hearts are broken, but they are also full—with love for Helena, and with a desire to honor her short, meaningful life. We are seeking support not only for our healing but to raise awareness about rare prenatal conditions and to support others walking a similar path.
 Every act of kindness carries her legacy forward.
This was not our first experience with loss. Several years ago, we faced the trauma of an ectopic and also a chemical pregnancy, a different kind of heartbreak that forever changed our journey into parenthood. 
Each experience has been deeply painful—but also a reminder of the importance of connection, support, and remembrance.
We share Helena’s story to honour her life, however short it was. 
We are fundraising for Sands because no family should walk through this kind of loss alone. Sands provides crucial support, information, and care to bereaved parents and families—something we now know the value of first-hand.
