Before you experience it, you are taught that grief is a straight line. You are told you will be in shock, you will cry, you will accept, and then you will move on. But the reality of baby loss is that grief is not a line at all. It is a labyrinth. Some days you are standing in the sunlight, and the next, a passing scent or a specific date drops you right back into the dark center of the day your world ended. Grief doesn't leave; it changes your DNA. It sits in your jaw, it weighs down your limbs, and it makes the simple act of getting out of bed feel like climbing a mountain.
