I’m taking part in Sands Ribbon Run

I’ve committed to taking part in Sands Ribbon Run in Manchester which takes place during Baby Loss Awareness Week on Saturday 10 October 2026. I am taking part for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

£20 - could provide a bereaved family with a memory box to help create and keep safe precious and lasting memories of their baby.

£35 - could answer a call from someone reaching out for support who has been through pregnancy loss or the death of a baby.

£100 - could help ensure every hospital in the UK has a dedicated Sands volunteer to help healthcare professionals access our training, guidance and support.

Hello, thank you for popping by....
This year I started up running. It's taken my husband years to get me into it, now I have the bug.
10 years ago me and my husband gave birth to a beautiful little boy we called Riley. I became very ill with pre eclampsia at 26 weeks gestation he had stopped growing in the womb a few weeks earlier.  He was very poorly so he had to be born by emergency c section 14 weeks early. He weighed just over a 1lb and was transferred to the Jessop wing in Sheffield where they had specialist care for babies born so early. He was on the high dependency unit within the neo natal unit requiring round the clock care. We weren't able to hold him for 4 weeks. We were able to touch him and do his cares through the holes in the incubator. It was a rollercoaster ride, we had many ups and downs as things can change so quickly. 
Sadly when he was 7 weeks old he became poorly, a common problem in premature babies called NEC (necrotising enterocolitis) basically sepsis of the bowels. We sadly lost him when we was exactly 7 weeks old. 

So this 10k run is in honour of you Riley the year you'd have turned 10 years old. Loved and missed always 🩵
