I’m taking part in Sands Ribbon Run

I’ve committed to taking part in Sands Ribbon Run which takes place during Baby Loss Awareness Week (9-15 October) for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

£20 - could provide a bereaved family with a memory box to help create and keep safe precious and lasting memories of their baby.

£35 - could answer a call from someone reaching out for support who has been through pregnancy loss or the death of a baby.

£100 - could help ensure every hospital in the UK has a dedicated Sands volunteer to help healthcare professionals access our training, guidance and support.

My Updates

BLA Week - Day 3

Sunday 11th Oct
Nearly didn’t do this one due to the pain last night and lack of sleep but when I commit, I commit. I took it slow and hopefully I won’t be in as much pain tonight. Plan for tomorrow is 2.5km.

BLA Week - Day Two

Sunday 11th Oct
This one felt hard on my heart and lungs but I felt like my joints coped well at the time. That night I barely slept due to pain.

BLA Week - Day One

Friday 9th Oct
Eased myself in with a 1km treadmill run for day one. It wasn’t fast, it wasn’t pretty, but it got done and with relative ease. Only experienced a couple of twinges on my walk home afterwards too which is completely manageable. Plan for day 2 is 1.5km.

Hi! 👋🏻

Thursday 1st Oct
Happy October! Thanks for taking a moment or two to read this. You may or may not know that baby loss awareness week is approaching. You may or may not know that it’s incredibly close to my heart. This year I have signed up for the Ribbon Run to help raise awareness and (hopefully 🤞🏻) funds for Sands. During baby loss awareness week (9-15 October) I intend to run at least 5km. This is a doubly personal journey because, not only have I not run since I fractured my hip almost 18 months ago, but I was advised not to when I got my recent HSD diagnosis. But those of you who know me well will also know that I don’t really do as I’m told! Particularly when it comes down to passion versus prudence. So, for all the other women who have tried and failed, have blamed themselves, have been at war with their bodies and felt betrayed, have heard the words, “I’m sorry, I don’t have good news for you”, have been handed a leaflet and sent on their way with more questions than answers… I see you, I’m with you, and this one’s for you. Between us let’s help prevent more women experiencing the same. Much love xxx

Good luck with the run - during a marathon a random stranger shouted at me "remember it's not about the time now, it's about fishing". Millions never even start so their clock is still running when the lines been crossed 👍
