Run 2k a Day in February 2026

I’m running 2k a day in Febuary for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to running 2k a day this February for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

Run 27/28

Saturday 28th Feb
Went out with a bang today and ran my first ever 10K. Fairly tough on the last couple of kilometres but relatively moderate effort. So chuffed that I managed it round without stopping and happy with my time. Thanks for everyone who’s followed throughout the month and encouraged me / donated. I asked for help to get to £600 yesterday and now we’ve nearly managed £700 which I honestly didn’t think I’d be anywhere near. You’re all very generous and as I’ve said, it’ll be going to a great charity that’s helped our family a lot in the past and been close to our hearts for almost 10 years.

Personally, I’m hoping to keep this up and increase distances in the future but for now I’m needing a rest 😂 still got the guilt I missed one day in the month and I don’t feel good leaving it as 27/28 runs. Maybe Belle needs a final run out tonight or tomorrow 👀 stay tuned.

Run 26/28

Friday 27th Feb
Been trying to get the time this week to go all out and try to be as quick as I could on this route, home early from work to squeeze it in before we’re back on the nightshift tonight. Belle couldn’t make it today (she’ll be glad to know) but that’s part of the reason why I was able to smash some of my recent times.

Really chuffed with this pace and seeing massive improvements physically from when we first started almost 28 days ago.

Long distance run, going for 10K tomorrow with some of the workies to go out with a bang.

Run 25/28

Thursday 26th Feb
Took a lot of motivation to get out tonight but me and the pup smashed it again ❤️

Run 24/28

Wednesday 25th Feb
Belle was forced out with me again tonight. Not sure she’s enjoying the athlete lifestyle now.

Run 23/28

Tuesday 24th Feb
Another night of me and Belle tearing through the streets of Glenmavis.
Relatively easy again tonight apart from my knees giving me a bit of grief. Looking forward to the month ending and getting a rest now.
Might try and go out without Belle tomorrow night and smash my quickest 2K to date, then get a couple of slow easy ones in before the big one 👀

Run 22/28

Monday 23rd Feb
Killing 2 birds with 1 stone tonight - running whilst the car charges.
Me and Belle ran around Maxim park whilst the car charged at Dakota. Actually really enjoyed this one despite the weather.

Run 21/28

Sunday 22nd Feb
Late one tonight with Belle, entering the final week ☺️

Run 20/28

Saturday 21st Feb
Missed my run yesterday as I was at an all day wedding. To make up for it, I done another 5K today but unfortunately Strava has done me dirty and not recorded it all. Tough one today, felt it a lot harder to run round the track than my normal route. Started at 16:53 and finished at 17:21 so approximately 28 mins which I’m chuffed about, just wish I had the proof!

Run 19/28

Thursday 19th Feb
Belle had suffered enough tonight watching the Celtic game so we decided to switch off early and torture ourselves more with another run.

Run 18/28

Wednesday 18th Feb
Me and Belle out on our mission to become athletes again tonight. Nice and light one following our 5K last night but we absolutely smashed it with our record time so far and fastest pace. Run felt relatively easy too, definitely feeling the improvements.

Shout out to my first car tooter on our runs tonight! I hope you know who you are, cause I’ve not got a clue but you’ve just became our #1 fan.

Think I may have signed off today on finishing with a bang at the end of the month. Potential 10K incoming. Like and subscribe for more content.

Run 17/28 - First 5K in almost 5 years

Tuesday 17th Feb
We finally done the 5K I’ve been teasing everyone about. After a belly full of pancakes, the guilt of doing 2 x virtual runs in the house 2/4 days and the encouragement of my wife to get it done, me and Belle set out with the intention of doing more than the 2K but as much as seemed achievable.

We set off feeling relatively good, set a comfortable pace and ran through the village, I think it was feeling good as mostly down hill, but what goes down must come up, and it certainly came up climbing that big b*****d hill up to the church in Glenmavis! Once we reached the top, I had a quick glance and it was just over 3K. I composed myself, slowed the pace and got my breath back and felt determined that tonight was the night!

Chuffed we managed to get it done although not the best time. I think I could improve on it running myself and maybe on a flatter surface but so chuffed we managed that distance with relative ease.

I’ve also reached the £500 donation mark, £460 online just now with another £40 I’ve been handed in cash. Thanks to everyone who’s donated so far. I won’t increase the target again but anyone who hasn’t donated and can space some cash between now and end of the month, please do for a great charity!

Run 16/28

Monday 16th Feb
Had to do another virtual run tonight. Straight home from work, dinner then off to see a gig in Glasgow. Was contemplating going when I got home, but it was 11:30 and the paths were already starting to ice. I’ll be back outside tomorrow and get a longer one in to make up for it.

Run 15/28

Sunday 15th Feb
Late one tonight after a long day driving. Managed to sneak away for 20 mins again thanks to Duncan. A wee run around the Plaza tonight to bring back memories of when I used to do this route at a much faster pace. Run felt good though despite the dark, cold and fog. Forget how daunting that hill at the chapel feels as soon as you turn off the Main Street.

Run 14

Saturday 14th Feb
Back at it tonight thanks to Duncan stepping in for 15 mins. Nice and easy one tonight, hopefully get the 5K in tomorrow.

That’s me now hit halfway, runs are getting easier but calves are sore. Can’t wait til the end of the month! Thanks again everyone!

Run 13

Friday 13th Feb
Literally couldn’t make it out tonight as I was in myself with Reeva and Belle. Most of the family are away for the weekend at a lodge to celebrate Shannon’s birthday so I had to improvise.
I took to a beach in Bali tonight instead of the views of Glenmavis, ran for the equivalent of 3K virtually, jogging on the spot, trying to raise the knees to simulate a real run. I feel rotten about not getting out but this was the best I could manage and I’ll get the 5K in over the weekend to make up for it. Still got a sweat on and the calves are screaming.

Run 12

Thursday 12th Feb
Went out for an afternoon run on my break with Belle. Got a fright when we went outside and it was snowing, urge was real to turn back and go tonight when it was hopefully drier but we braved it. Glad it’s done now and we can chill tonight, get a wee walk done to stretch the legs.

Run 11

Wednesday 11th Feb
Went out tonight at half time for a ‘quick’ 2K. Belle was back out tonight and we purposely took it slower to try and get the breathing back on track. Felt fairly easy tonight. That’s now 11/28 runs done 💪

Run 10

Tuesday 10th Feb
Out myself tonight, was feeling good aiming for the 3K but breathing was hard and I ended up cutting it shorter than I had aimed. 2.5K tonight but still a pace I was happy with.
Went a slightly different route to extend the run and the majority of the start was an incline with the wind at my face, think that’s possibly why my breathing was harder. Slight knock on my confidence as to how difficult the 5K might be, but we won’t be shying away from it now. Stay tuned.

Run 9

Monday 9th Feb
Another late one tonight with my dog Belle.
We picked up the pace a good bit tonight, really happy with the improvement in my pace and time. Biggest difference I can feel is with my breathing, no longer feeling like I can’t catch a breath or getting tightness in the chest. Legs are still feeling the pain on the last parts of the run but hopefully that eases whenever the month ends and they get a break!

Feeling good about a 5K at the end of the week 💪

Run 8

Sunday 8th Feb
Out with Belle again tonight.
Let her do her business first before we started this time and it was much easier 😅 she still likes to try and sabotage me with the odd sniff but we got round it tonight in a reasonable time.
This was actually the best I’ve felt tonight doing the run and I probably could have done more if I wasn’t getting back in time for dinner. I can feel a wee 4 or 5K coming on this week.
Give us a wee donation, reaction or share on this post if you want a wee 5K at some point this week.

Run 7

Saturday 7th Feb
Put this one off all day due to being rough from last nights party.
Also devoured half a Calzone and drank my weight in Irn Bru, so the stitch was real.
I left Belle at home tonight and got my pace up, so buzzing to break into the 5k/m mark. That’s also the first week completed!

Run 6

Friday 6th Feb
Short one tonight and tried to avoid any hills. Me and Belle out smashing it again. I’ll try to get a longer one in at the weekend 💪

Run 5

Thursday 5th Feb
Another late one tonight with Belley Boo!
She was a bit more of a pain in the hoop tonight, a pee and a poop to bring my time down along with plenty of sniffing opportunities. We did do a 3K walk this afternoon so maybe that’s her way of telling me she’s no interested in being an athlete with me.
Felt tough again tonight on the breathing but again, probably due to the cold temps and high winds. We keep going 💪

Run 4

Wednesday 4th Feb
Late one tonight. Decided to take my puppy Belle out with me to kill 2 birds with 1 stone. This was the first long(ish) distance run I’ve taken her on as I’ve always been a bit worried about how she’d be running next to me on pavements etc. I can honestly say she smashed it and actually motivated me (pulled me along) to complete it in ‘ruffly’ the same time, this was including one small poop scoop as well.
Felt a bit good tonight, until the end where it was mostly up-hill coming home but chuffed we got it done together.

Run 3

Tuesday 3rd Feb
Working from home today and decided to get this one over and done with during lunch to have some rest and family time tonight.
Decided to do my first route again considering it was light which added up to just over 2.7K.
Was quietly confident with this one as last night was fairly easy but I was wrong! I probably ran too soon after eating and got a bad stitch with about 1Km to go. It was also really cold and was hit with mild hail on the way back. Breathing was a bit harder with wind against me on the first half of the run.
Although it was challenging, we battered through and actually improved on my pace from the first 2 nights. All in all, another one done and I can rest now until tomorrow.
I’ve upped the target again as we smashed the increased goal of £350 this morning. Not trying to be cheeky by increasing the target but there’s almost a full month left to get as much as I can! Thanks to everyone who’s following and donated and hopefully we can keep raising money.

Run 2

Monday 2nd Feb
Long day back at work today with the run hanging over me all day along with new aches and pains (who’d have thought a 2K run would come with full body pain the next day?)
Came home, had some dinner then went over to my Mums for Duncan’s birthday and chocolate cake 👀 definitely not an athletes diet.
Came back home, got Reeva to sleep and finally managed to lift myself up out of bed to go the next run.
I was really dreading this one but actually got into a good rhythm initially and feeling good. Went to do the same route but had to turn back as it was really dark with no street lights and very little hi-vis clothing. Managed to mix it up a bit running through the schemes with a couple of inclines and was actually feeling really good, probably could have went longer tonight but I’m conscious this is the start of a long month and I should probably not push too much too soon.
Thanks again for all the donations, almost hit the second target mark of £350 ☺️

1st run

Sunday 1st Feb
I finally managed to psych myself up and go for the first run. I left my estate and ran to Bartletts and back, turns out it’s around 2.68km so I’ll try and use this as my standard daily run to keep me above the 2K a day.

I can’t thank everyone enough for their generosity! SANDS standard target was £175 which you managed to smash in the first hour. We’re now at £226, but I’ve raised my target by double to try and keep me motivated throughout the month and raise as much money as possible.

Run was tough! But hopefully it’ll get easier with practice, and if it does I’ll try and knock out a few more Km’s each night.

The Start

Sunday 1st Feb
Today is the day it begins… I signed up to this spontaneously a few weeks ago, I had just came back from the Doctors with chest pain and breathlessness (nothing to worry about apparently). In hindsight, maybe it wasn’t the best idea considering I’ve not really done any exercise since Covid times, apart from the daily walk with my dog Belle. I figure that 2K is a reasonable distance but not really fully given it thought that I’ll be doing it every day for 28 days.
I wanted to lose a bit of weight and had been thinking about running anyway but I saw the advert for Sands and knew I had to do it considering how amazing they were for our family during a difficult period. So hopefully this challenge will assist in me losing some timber and helping raise money to help other families in the future.
I will try to update as often as I can with blogs and images.
If you can, I would appreciate anyone sparing as little cash as the can to assist me reaching my goal of £175 within the month.
