1 in 4 💔
The club you never want to be in, and yet so many of us are 💔
At the end July 2026, we joined the world’s worst club. I will never forget the short time we got to know our baby and the complete joy we felt, which was made all the more cruel by the utter heartbreak that followed. We are still learning to live with the weight of what should have been.
There are some losses that language was never built to hold. The kind of loss that changes your very sense of being - there is a version of me before that day, and a version of me after. Some days, I don’t understand how they can be the same person.
The truth is, they aren’t.
Miscarriage is an incredibly lonely and isolating place. Many women often carry this tremendous pain in silence. Unfortunately, there is still a taboo around speaking openly about pregnancy loss, leaving many women to feel alone during the worst days of their lives.
And yet almost everyone has been affected by it - whether through their own loss, or that of a friend, sister, parent, or colleague.
The only thing that got me through the past 2 months, other than my husband, family, close friends, and 2 much-needed escapes to the sun, is hearing and sharing experiences with other loss mums.
Just knowing that you aren’t alone does give some strange sort of comfort and hope on the stormiest days ❤️🩹 Speaking out is so important and I feel so strongly that this taboo needs to change. So despite feeling incredibly vulnerable in sharing this, I hope that sharing our story helps someone feel even slightly less alone 🫶🏼
So how can we change things?
This weekend, I will be running the Cardiff Half Marathon to raise money for SANDS, an incredible charity that supports families through their darkest storms and funds essential research so fewer families have to experience this tragedy.
Unfortunately, the care and support many women receive is, to put it bluntly, shocking. They are often left to support themselves through one of the most heartbreaking, physically and emotionally difficult experiences of their life. Too often women have their losses minimised and are made to feel like a nuisance for wanting basic medical care during a traumatic life event.
We need to change this.
Thankfully there are charities like Tommys and SANDS fighting for better.
Every single loss matters and love and grief cannot be measured in weeks 🤍
I’ve also committed to taking part in the Sands Ribbon Run, which takes place during Baby Loss Awareness week (9-15 October). I’ll be running a 5k with other loss mums on 10 October 🤍
Why your donation matters…
£20 - could provide a bereaved family with a memory box to help create and keep safe precious and lasting memories of their baby.
£35 - could answer a call from someone reaching out for support who has been through pregnancy loss or the death of a baby.
£100 - could help ensure every hospital in the UK has a dedicated Sands volunteer to help healthcare professionals access our training, guidance and support.
If you can spare anything at all, I’d be so grateful 🤍
