I’m taking part in Sands Ribbon Run

I’m taking part in Sands Ribbon Run this Baby Loss Awareness Week 9-15 October.

Sands exists to support anyone affected by the death of a baby, before, during or shortly after birth, whenever this happened and for as long as they need support.

By sponsoring me, you are helping Sands break the silence around baby loss and to continue to save babies’ lives.

£10 - could provide a hand and footprint kit to help create memories.

£20 - could provide a bereaved family with a memory box to help create and keep safe precious and lasting memories of their baby.

£35 - could answer a call from someone reaching out for support who has been through pregnancy loss or the death of a baby.

£100 - could help ensure every hospital in the UK has a dedicated Sands volunteer to help healthcare professionals access our training, guidance and support.

Training Complete!

Wednesday 8th Oct
That's me completed my training to run 15km (just over nine miles) on Saturday! I have really enjoyed it for the most part, clocking in my longest run to date, 7.5mi.

In April 2019 I went through a miscarriage. It was devastating for our family, taking it's toll on us very differently, and at different times. People often forget that dad's go through the heartbreak of a miscarriage too. We supported each other as best we could, and felt grateful to have two wonderful children already.

Over six years on, and the "what ifs" still come in waves. D & C would have another sibling running around with them, and I'd be kept on my toes even more than I already am with two. Around Christmas time is particularly difficult as baby was due between Christmas and New Year.

Last year I had surgery on my back. I tried to get back into running once I had the all clear to exercise again, but I wasn't ready. Fast forward to February this year and I started the NHS C25K and consistently ran three times per week for the full nine weeks. I have completed two 5k races, the Women's Cancer Challenge in May and the Leanne Fund in June. I ran my first 10k on the 5th of July after a really low moment. I struggle with depression and running has helped me so much. I don't always manage to get out the door on the bad days, but when I do, I come home feeling 10x lighter!

I have had a lot of support and I hope by completing this run on Saturday, I'll have proven to myself how strong and resilient I am. I hope that the money I am raising will go to help other families who have experienced/are experiencing the devastation of losing a baby. 🤍
