I’ve committed to running 2k a day this January for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

This January 2026, I’m setting myself a challenge that both excites and terrifies me a little — I’ll be running 2 kilometres every single day throughout the month in support of SANDS, the baby loss charity.

To be completely honest, I’m a beginner runner. I’m far from sporty and I barely run up the stairs without getting out of breath. But sometimes the most meaningful challenges aren’t about being the fastest or strongest — they’re about showing up, pushing yourself, and doing something that truly matters.

SANDS is a charity that is incredibly close to mine and my families hearts. Through our own personal experience with pregnancy loss, we know how devastating, isolating, and life-changing it can be. SANDS supports anyone affected by the loss of a baby, whether through miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal death. They provide emotional support, run helplines and support groups, and work with healthcare professionals to improve care. They also fund vital research and help raise awareness so that fewer families have to experience this heartbreak in the future.

January holds special meaning for me. On January 4th 2026, my son turns one. Running this challenge during his birthday month feels incredibly symbolic — a way to honour our journey, to remember the babies we lost, and to celebrate the little boy who means everything to us. Every step I take will be for my family, for my son, and for all the families who have had their worlds turned upside down by baby loss.

This challenge won’t be easy. There will be cold mornings, tired legs, and days where motivation is hard to find. But I’m prepared to push myself outside my comfort zone, because the cause is bigger than me. If my effort can help raise awareness, funds, or even just start a conversation, then every kilometre will be worth it.
