I’m running 2k a day in January for families facing baby loss

Hello if you're reading my page!

I’ve committed to running 2k a day this January for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

This is a cause so close to my heart. I have had my own family and multiple friends affected by baby loss, and it is devastating each and every time; the precious moments of hope are engulfed by grief that no parent should experience.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

My Updates

Day 19

Monday 19th Jan
It’s been a few days since I did an update as life happens! I have managed to run every day since the 16th so hopefully that was a one off blip.
Almost 2/3 of the way through….

Day 16

Friday 16th Jan
Today was a late one as I was out pretty much all day with the toddler. We got back after 9pm and way too late after his bed time and I had to do a solo bath-bed too. I couldn’t face a run after 10pm, especially if planning a morning run - so I walked 2km on the treadmill instead and have logged it onto my Strava.
Hopefully it counts!

Day 15

Thursday 15th Jan
Half way through!
Thank you everyone so much for your donations - please keep them coming and sharing!

I think the second week has been mentally and physically much more challenging than the first. I’ve really struggled with motivation to do more than the bare minimum! My calves and upper back are really feeling it. And after putting the toddler to bed some days, the last thing I want to do is crawl out of a warm bed and run in a hot house!
However I’ve managed wash and every time so the real battle will always be the mental one

Anyway - I keep reminding myself this is in memory of all those babies that never made it earthside, who took all that love and sadness with them. The son or daughter, the sibling, the niece or nephew, the grandchild….

Day 14 done

Wednesday 14th Jan
Wham! Nearly half way…

Day 13

Tuesday 13th Jan
Nearly half way! My favourite kate bush was my 80s anthem today…

Day 12

Monday 12th Jan
Still struggling this week but tried to keep the same pace for a longer run! Still hate the first 1km.

Reminding myself I’m running for all the women in my life who have experienced a miscarriage and baby loss - and in memory of those little souls.

Day 11 done!

Sunday 11th Jan

Day 10 for SANDS

Saturday 10th Jan
I actually ran 2.5km today but I’ve rounded it down to 2km to prevent an inaccurate tally as I think the page is rounding up! This is from Strava today: I really struggled with motivation today and I was really fed up with the rotation of toddler mess and the continuous cleaning. However after running today I saw the baby’s trains all lined up on the living room floor and got a rush of perspective of how lucky we are to have all this mess and such a beautiful gorgeous healthy child. And it reminded me of the reason I’m running - it’s for the families that weren’t so lucky and to help support them! the runs are seeming a bit harder than easier though… I think my SANDS fundraising page is rounding up any 0.5km so I wanted to get to 3km to avoid an inaccurate count, but a stitch in my side at 2.3km decided for me. It was 80s divas accompanying my run today…Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Belinda!

Day 9

Friday 9th Jan
Just had to finish….

Day 8

Thursday 8th Jan
3km today with Storm Goretti swirling around outside.

Day 7 / week one done!

Wednesday 7th Jan
Absolutely in disbelief I managed a week of this challenge! Thank you to everyone who has donated already and sent messages of encouragement and support - I really am very grateful ❤️ Please continue to share and donate!

Day 4

Sunday 4th Jan
A late one as above!

Day 3 done

Saturday 3rd Jan
A little late posting…ran this morning. It was a little bit of a tough one as the legs are feeling a little tired. But we got there!

Snowy cool down

Friday 2nd Jan

Day 2

Friday 2nd Jan
We woke up to a snow day today!
I managed a 2.5km run today whilst the toddler was napping. I am definitely not brave enough to run in the snow but I did walk around outside to cool down. One of the pitfalls of running on a treadmill in a very warm house…getting very hot and sweaty!

Day 1 done!

Thursday 1st Jan
Today was a sleep deprived run fuelled by the excitement of starting the challenge!

You can stay up to date with me (very slow) running on my Strava here: https://strava.app.link/DONnLH6TzZb

Thank you all for donating - long journey has only just begun!

An early thank you!

Wednesday 31st Dec
Thanks to everyone who’s already donated - I’m so humbled people have sponsored me before the challenge has even started!

I am not the best runner and definitely getting back into things with ease and very slow running!

After a week off I eased myself back in today with a 2.5km run on the treadmill, hoping tomorrow and each day after that feels easier. I may also try and do longer runs in the week as I’m also working my way back up to running a 5km with ease (not there yet at all!) but we shall see what happens. My main goal is to complete at least the 2km run each day at least…

I will start logging the runs tomorrow on this page but my Strava is here too: https://strava.app.link/EUfvi8q3xZb
