I’m running 2k a day in January for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to running 2k a day this January for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

Completing my family.

Wednesday 31st Dec
This feels very self indulgent, however, I guess you wouldn’t be reading this if you weren’t genuinely interested in my story, so here goes.

After I had my first daughter, I assumed having another baby would be easy! How wrong was I? After about 14 months I fell pregnant again for the first time, this ended in a missed miscarriage at 11 weeks, my whole world collapsed, as everyone’s does, when I heard the words ‘there’s no heartbeat!’.  We were okay, we told ourselves, theses things happen, next time everything will work out fine… until it didn’t… then it didn’t again… and again…

I eventually was referred to the local consultant for  recurrent miscarriages, who found, after some blood tests, that I have slightly increased levels of APS, or Antiphospholipid Syndrome, which is one of the most common reasons for recurring miscarriages. A treatment plan was arranged and I would take blood thinners from the moment I found out I was pregnant to see if that would help the next time. And the next time came quicker than I had thought! Only 4 weeks after my last miscarriage I fell pregnant with my youngest baby.

So finally, 4 years, 4 miscarriages, a round of therapy, and around 260 injections of blood thinners later I finally had our gorgeous little girl, and completed our family. My eldest has fallen into the role of sister perfectly, and our little beastie is now a wild yet angelic one year old!

It was honestly one of the most traumatic times of my life and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I know how common my story is and how many women go through the same struggles, so I am doing this challenge for them, in hopes that in their time of need they too will be able to access the same help that I once needed.

I’ve fallen into somewhat of a rut with my running and fitness journey so I thought this would be the perfect challenge to get me back into it! If you are able to donate anything at all I would be hugely grateful, I know it’s a tough time of year for everyone!
