Run 2k a Day in January 2026

I’m running 2k a day in January for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to running 2k a day this January for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

Saturday 31st Jan
Thank you to each and every one of you who has donated - you are so appreciated and I’m so grateful for your support towards this charity ❤️
62km run/walked/limped through January!

10k to go

Monday 26th Jan
10k to go and a bit of reflecting today whilst I wait for the rain to ease so I can get down to 8k!

I’m so grateful for everyone for supporting me through this with donations, words of encouragement and even joining me on my runs!

I’m really proud of myself that I’ve done it and, although still have moments where I’m sad, it’s helped me get through the month ❤️

My fastest run

Thursday 22nd Jan
Completed my fastest run today! Really proud of myself as I pushed through wanting to walk and I was by myself too!

Day 18

Sunday 18th Jan
Over half way through the 2k a day in January challenge! I wish I could say it was getting easier, but it’s not! However, giving up isn’t an option and I feel like I’ve accomplished something already. Thank you to everyone who’s given me words of encouragement and donated along the way ❤️

Day 13

Tuesday 13th Jan
I almost didn’t go today after poor Rusty had to spend the day at the vet and is very drowsy after being sedated for an xray (he is ok). I felt bad leaving him as he was a huge support to me when I was off with the challenges of my loss. He didn’t leave my side and I felt terrible leaving his but he is just sleeping off the sedatives. I made another 2k, closer to my end goal.

Day 8

Thursday 8th Jan
I cried after my run today. It was really hard but I kept pushing myself and did it in under 20 minutes. I’ve stupidly set myself a personal goal of getting my runs under 20 minutes but I’ve not taken into account what my body went through. My legs hurt and I felt silly struggling.

Day 6

Tuesday 6th Jan
A tough one today with the ice, slush and cold. I can tell I lost a lot of muscle with the hg as my calves are really struggling. Hopefully by the end of the challenge, I’ll have recouped some of my strength whilst helping others who have felt the loss too

Day 5 - a walk over snow

Monday 5th Jan
Today was due to be my first day back in work after everything that’s happened. Unfortunately the snow had other ideas for me and I was snowed in! The run was too dangerous today as it was -1 and everything is white so it was a careful walk in mountain boots! I doubled the 2k to 4k but almost did 5 - however, I’ll still be classing this as a 2k run to keep on track of the 31 days.

Day 2,3 and 4

Sunday 4th Jan
Day 2, 4 and 4 I’ve been in Dublin to celebrate my 30th birthday.

I have however walked a lot of kms over the 3 days which I’m going to count as my runs! I’ve walked 20km so far over the days, and still more walking to do today! Logging wise I’m going to only count it as 3 x 2km runs and carry on as usual tomorrow - hopefully safely as there is snow at home!

Run 1 done and my motivation.

Thursday 1st Jan
Today I completed run 1 - it was 3 degrees and sleeting but I took rusty to the golf course and ran 2k!
I had written a lot about what has happened to me physically and emotionally over the last few months but I feel that it takes away from the purpose of this challenge. So I will maybe share my story another time but currently, I don’t feel like sharing is the right thing.
