I’m taking part in Sands Ribbon Run in memory of Jack, and his brother or sister who we never met.
I will be taking part in the Maldon Ribbon Run on October 4th 2025. This year I have taken up running as a 'hobby' having previously sworn that I hated running and would never do it! However I have found that I do in fact enjoy it, although it doesn't come easy to me. It gives me a chance to get out, get fit and allow my head a bit of space to work through whatever is going on in there. I often think about Jack during a run, and all that he went through, and however difficult the run feels it is nothing compared to that. After Jack died we also suffered a miscarriage and it was even more grief to add onto the already overwhelming amount I was carrying. As time has passed (over 30 years now), the grief still remains but has become part of who I am.
Although I didn't use Sands for support at the time, I did know about them and would have gladly asked for help had I felt I needed it. Fundraising for them will enable others who do need their help, to benefit from it.
I’ve committed to taking part in Maldon Prom Sands Ribbon Run which takes place for Baby Loss Awareness Week (9-15 October) for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.
Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.
Thank you.
£10 - could provide a hand and footprint kit to help create memories.
£20 - could provide a bereaved family with a memory box to help create and keep safe precious and lasting memories of their baby.
£35 - could answer a call from someone reaching out for support who has been through pregnancy loss or the death of a baby.
£100 - could help ensure every hospital in the UK has a dedicated Sands volunteer to help healthcare professionals access our training, guidance and support.
