I’m taking part in Sands Ribbon Run

I’m taking part in Sands Ribbon Run this Baby Loss Awareness Week 9-15 October.

Sands exists to support anyone affected by the death of a baby, before, during or shortly after birth, whenever this happened and for as long as they need support.

By sponsoring me, you are helping Sands break the silence around baby loss and to continue to save babies’ lives.

£10 - could provide a hand and footprint kit to help create memories.

£20 - could provide a bereaved family with a memory box to help create and keep safe precious and lasting memories of their baby.

£35 - could answer a call from someone reaching out for support who has been through pregnancy loss or the death of a baby.

£100 - could help ensure every hospital in the UK has a dedicated Sands volunteer to help healthcare professionals access our training, guidance and support.

Race day

Tuesday 14th Oct
My official chip says 2:31 but my Runna app says 2:29. I also had a wee break at mile 3 or 4 and the queue for the portaloo was a bit ridiculous so either way I am happy with my time (which had been predicted as 3:00-3:13).
I’m not a natural runner … my legs are short and clumsy lol, but I’ve got to say I loved it ! The crowd were amazing … hearing some of them cheer my name and kids holding their hands out for hi 5s 🥲
I’ve uploaded the official MCR race photos as I think they can depict the elation I felt when I saw the finish line.
At this point £324 has been raised for SANDS charity who do such great work around baby loss, so thank you to everyone of you who has donated , and on top of that been so encouraging and supportive of me on this training journey. At one point I was running in secret as I didn’t really believe I’d stand any chance of running more than 5k  … let alone a half marathon
Thank you so much xxx 😘 🤟 big loves

Last planned run on training schedule

Tuesday 7th Oct
Last run completed on training plan this morning. It feels so counterproductive but I’m trying to trust the process and I will be leaving my running shoes alone now until the big day on Sunday.
For the first time in 7 months I am not obsessing over food tracking & I am not in a calorie defecit. It is nice but feels risky! I’m such an all or nothing person when it comes to food / health / training and usually this would be a classic time for food binges so let’s just hope I can keep some sort of balance discipline for Sunday 🤟🤟

12K this morning

Thursday 2nd Oct
Today was the last long distance run from my training plan. I thought it would feel easier with the last two weeks of plan incorporating up to 90% of the half marathon distance… I was wrong though 😅🫣 My little legs struggled today and everything felt fatigued. I’ve ran each morning for the last three days to stay on plan with training & ideally I would have had a rest day inbetween but due to childcare & work commitments sometimes it just doesn’t work out. Managed to get it done though and that’s what I need to focus on.
I can enjoy tommorows rest day (or maybe a little bit of low impact strength work) and then hopefully ready for one last park run. Two more runs left on my training plan before the big one 🤟🤟🖤

2 more runs left on training plan before MCR 🫣

I cannot believe the generosity of you all , I am truly grateful. Times are tough and I know there’s so many great causes out there so really is appreciated.
When I first got my entry for MCR half I was so tempted to do it in secret as I wasn’t convinced I’d be able to do it in all honestly. Also the thought of public running … barffff !!! 🤣 with just under a month of training to go I am getting super nervous , and still a bit apprehensive of making a tit of myself. Self negative thoughts are creeping in like will I be the largest runner there ? Will I look out of place compared to everyone else ? And I think probably yes to both but with all your support and kindness I feel driven and motivated to give it a really good go anyway . Thank you 🙏

Very wet run this morning

My first ribbon run October 2022

Friday 15th Aug
I did my first ribbon run back in 2022.
I am not by any means a natural or decent runner but after my third miscarriage I just felt lost like I needed to put my focus into something. So I decided to get in the gym and started doing couch to 5k , I hated the way everything wobbled when I ran and I felt so self conscious so I would pick quiet times in the gym and hide away on the treadmill facing the sea.
I did my 5k here which took me 57 minutes and left me feeling exhausted and very emotional but I managed to raise £305 for sands. This year I am going to be running outside in real life where other people will be able to see me … and all my wobbley bits 🙈🙈 and I’ll be running for a bit longer than last time as it’s a bloody half marathon. Can I do it ?! Who knows . Will I be able to complete the whole run before the cut off point of 3 hours ?! F@@@ knows 🤣🤣🫠 let’s give it a good go though

A bit about me …

Thursday 14th Aug

There has been progress and some positive changes since 2022 such as certificates to recognise baby losses and bereavement leave to include miscarriage before 24 weeks of pregnancy. However there is still a stigma around the topic & it remains devastating to families.
Back in August 2022 as I was approaching my mid to later thirties, I suffered my third miscarriage. It was a horrendous experience and I felt so angry with my body for failing me. I desperately wanted help and it wasn’t until I had my third loss that I was able to be put on the waiting list for investigational blood tests to see if there was a reason behind it.
There was no reason to be found which was frustrating, confusing and yet also a huge relief.
Just over a year later (with a very tense and anxious pregnancy) I was incredibly lucky to be blessed with my rainbow baby….  but I know that there are so many people who don’t get their rainbow and so this is for you guys 💖
