I’m taking part in Sands Ribbon Run

I’m taking part in Sands Ribbon Run this Baby Loss Awareness Week 9-15 October.

Sands exists to support anyone affected by the death of a baby, before, during or shortly after birth, whenever this happened and for as long as they need support.

By sponsoring me, you are helping Sands break the silence around baby loss and to continue to save babies’ lives.

£10 - could provide a hand and footprint kit to help create memories.

£20 - could provide a bereaved family with a memory box to help create and keep safe precious and lasting memories of their baby.

£35 - could answer a call from someone reaching out for support who has been through pregnancy loss or the death of a baby.

£100 - could help ensure every hospital in the UK has a dedicated Sands volunteer to help healthcare professionals access our training, guidance and support.

My first ribbon run October 2022

Friday 15th Aug
I did my first ribbon run back in 2022.
I am not by any means a natural or decent runner but after my third miscarriage I just felt lost like I needed to put my focus into something. So I decided to get in the gym and started doing couch to 5k , I hated the way everything wobbled when I ran and I felt so self conscious so I would pick quiet times in the gym and hide away on the treadmill facing the sea.
I did my 5k here which took me 57 minutes and left me feeling exhausted and very emotional but I managed to raise £305 for sands. This year I am going to be running outside in real life where other people will be able to see me … and all my wobbley bits 🙈🙈 and I’ll be running for a bit longer than last time as it’s a bloody half marathon. Can I do it ?! Who knows . Will I be able to complete the whole run before the cut off point of 3 hours ?! F@@@ knows 🤣🤣🫠 let’s give it a good go though

A bit about me …

Thursday 14th Aug

There has been progress and some positive changes since 2022 such as certificates to recognise baby losses and bereavement leave to include miscarriage before 24 weeks of pregnancy. However there is still a stigma around the topic & it remains devastating to families.
Back in August 2022 as I was approaching my mid to later thirties, I suffered my third miscarriage. It was a horrendous experience and I felt so angry with my body for failing me. I desperately wanted help and it wasn’t until I had my third loss that I was able to be put on the waiting list for investigational blood tests to see if there was a reason behind it.
There was no reason to be found which was frustrating, confusing and yet also a huge relief.
Just over a year later (with a very tense and anxious pregnancy) I was incredibly lucky to be blessed with my rainbow baby….  but I know that there are so many people who don’t get their rainbow and so this is for you guys 💖
