I’m running 2k a day in January for families facing baby loss

I’ve committed to running 2k a day this January for every much-loved baby sadly not here today.

Sands ensure that everyone affected by the loss of a baby gets the support they need and deserve when facing the toughest of times. They campaign for change, provide training for midwives and healthcare professionals, and support research so that fewer babies die and so that less families experience the tragedy of losing their baby. Anything you are able to donate means so much.

Thank you.

My Updates

2k a day January 2026

Friday 26th Dec
The photo is from my last day before my life changed forever... Matthew & I lost our first baby just before our 12wk scan in 2020; we'll never know why, just that "these things happen".  I was hospitalised but no support was offered - not even a pamphlet to go home with.

We were lucky enough to fall pregnant again not too long after with our first rainbow baby, but a very difficult delivery meant we almost lost her too - that was terrifying.  Again, no support was offered - in fact everything was quietly swept under the rug and no acknowledgement of our experience written into our notes - as if it never happened.

It wasn't until I was pregnant with our second rainbow baby that I sought any help and support. Thank gawd I did as it meant her delivery was tough and a little scary but manageable and a huge success all round.  I voted my midwife for a Daisy Award (she won) because I couldn't have done the pregnancy or birth without her!

Whenever I've shared our story, I've found we're sadly not alone. If that person hasn't experienced baby loss themselves, they often know someone who has.

Both my babies were also "itchy babies" - I had ICP (intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy), a severe liver condition that causes bile acids to leak into the blood stream which increases risk to the baby during pregnancy and can cause still births.

So I'm running 2k a day every day in January so that I can raise money for SANDS to support anyone who has experienced any type of baby loss.  If I can raise awareness of ICP in the process too so one reason for baby loss may be reduced, then it feels like another win!

We should normalise sharing our stories but we should not accept that these things "just happen".

Well done Roxi - it’s been a fair while but you’re doing great things for a great cause. All this has become much more real since our own daughter arrived in June, and lots of mates in Copenhagen have been effected too. I hope all is well with you, Matt and the wee ones, and if you’re ever in Copenhagen give me a shout!
